KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 — Former Selangor Umno chief Tan Sri Noh Omar is among several party divisional leaders who are likely to face disciplinary action as part of an internal “cleansing” ahead of its internal polls this year.

Noh, who is still Tanjong Karang Umno chief, is expected to be subjected to disciplinary action with five other unnamed leaders from his division, Utusan Malaysia reported today.

The Malay newspaper closely linked to Umno said the six party men are the latest addition to an alleged list of “saboteurs” during the 15th general election last November.

It cited a letter shared by an unnamed source informing Noh and the five Tanjung Karang division leaders that they are to give their statements before Umno’s disciplinary board on January 30.

According to the source, Umno needs to take such disciplinary action to protect the party’s good name.

“The decision (for disciplinary action) was taken after the completion of Umno’s recent general assembly.

“It is not difficult to figure out which Umno member will be subjected to disciplinary action,” the anonymous source was quoted as saying.

Noh, who is also an Umno supreme council member, resigned as Selangor Umno chief last November after saying that he no longer had confidence in party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Noh said he decided to resign since Ahmad Zahid appears to have lost faith in him even before campaigning began for GE15, citing being left out of candidate selection talks to support his claim.

Other than Noh, speculation has been rife that Umno will take disciplinary action against its former Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.

Umno’s supreme council meeting tonight will be closely watched as it is understood that disciplinary action will be taken against several party leaders.
