PETALING JAYA: Former deputy MCA president and health minister Lee Kim Sai died today. He was 82.
MCA president Wee Ka Siong, in announcing this in a Facebook posting, said this was a great loss to the nation as Lee had served society in various capacities.
Lee was appointed labour minister in 1986, and became housing and local government minister in 1989.
He served as health minister from 1990 until 1995.
Lee retired from politics in 1996.
During his time in MCA, he was among those who objected to the appointment of senior assistants and supervisors without qualifications in Mandarin in Chinese primary schools.
He was also among those who wanted the Sedition Act to be amended to make it an offence for anyone to label any of the three major races in the country as immigrants or “pendatang”.
So, a sad occasion for us to turn and closed off another important page in Malaysian history.
Rest in Peace, Lee Kim Sai, you're now in a far better place where there is no hate, no ill, no hunger, but only eternal peace and tranquillity.
In 1987, he was the bete noire of Najib Razak, then UMNO Youth, who had Lee Kim Sai's datukship stripped off by the late HRH Selangor, dad of the current HRH Selangor, for Lee's seeming challenge to bumiputera's status.
Wikipedia says:
Lee was outspoken on a number of sensitive issues, such as questioning the Malaysian New Economic Policy and the political dominance of the Malays.
In particular, in early November 1986, the MCA Selangor of which he was its head, passed a resolution in its annual convention calling on the government to review the Sedition Act and to make it an offence to call any of the three major races immigrants or pendatang. The resolution, which stated that Malaysia's three major races originated from other countries and that none of them should brand the others as immigrants and claim themselves to be natives.
This was interpreted as challenging the bumiputra status of the Malays, which led to calls for his sacking by members of UMNO, and the withdrawal of his datukship by the Sultan of Selangor.
(2) the opportunistic excuse for a "Someone" to launch OPS LALANG to cover up dirt in his personal problems with his own party and chief UMNO competitor (who was alleged to have been the one to have won the UMNO presidency, until Aladdin & his wonderful genie appeared miraculously, wakakaka), and
In 1987 Lee Kim Sai's objection to the appointment of senior assistants and supervisors without qualifications in Mandarin in Chinese primary schools unwittingly achieved three things, namely:
(1) the UNPRECEDENTED UNITY of Chinese Malaysians for the FIRST and undoubtedly LAST time, wakakaka, and
(2) the opportunistic excuse for a "Someone" to launch OPS LALANG to cover up dirt in his personal problems with his own party and chief UMNO competitor (who was alleged to have been the one to have won the UMNO presidency, until Aladdin & his wonderful genie appeared miraculously, wakakaka), and
ironically, Aladdin was a Chinese, orang Tiong Hua, wakakaka |
(3) the amazing revelation that a certain "Someone" (wakakaka) had been a Shaolin fan, alluding to the danger of Chinese getting together a la (1) above at a Chinese Temple, the Thean Hou Temple in KL
Ironically again, Lim Kit Siang was then correct in saying Ops Lalang was directed MORE at "Someone's" UMNO rivals than at the then-opposition. After Ops Lalang, the UMNO party and press were under his iron fist.
But the MOST important lesson today, especially for Lim Guan Eng, is the Chinese Malaysians, as with Chinese around the world, cherish education especially their children's education, as has been seen in their dedication, struggle and sacrifice in 1987.
without support of the Chinese Malaysians, you're a NOBODY - don't be too arrogant, haughty and forget your grassroots |
Guan Eng has betrayed Chinese Malaysians forevermore with his vindictiveness against MCA and thus consequentially TAR UC, and also his apathy against UEC.
How did this sad obituary meander into an attack on Toonsie, LKS and Guanee? Even Teo Nie Ching got a mention when she was probably still in primary school when Lee Kim Sai was minister.
ReplyDeleteYes, very bad form of Ktemoc to use an obituary to attack current DAP leaders.
DeleteNo standard lag.
I were once MCA supporter when leeks was the youth leader, n state assemblyman for rawang. we look forward to hear him speak during every thousand people feast in either my primary school basketball field or the padang opposite MCA clubhouse. most of us idolizing him as our hero, we found him a better speaker compare to any dap politician at that time, but his hesitation to contest against fish head really damage his reputation as a fighter. MCA started to lost its shine when fish head reign, history seem to repeat the same when dap now lead by a stupid.
ReplyDeleterip Mr Lee Kim Sai.
