Mahathir infusing Islamic values into administrative procedures?

FMT - Does Pakatan back Mahathir era’s policy on Islamic values? (extracts):

A former MP is demanding that Pakatan Harapan state its stand on the policy of infusing Islamic values into administrative procedures, which was introduced when PPBM chairman Mahathir Mohamad was prime minister and PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim was his deputy.

Tawfik Ismail, who was the MP for Sungai Benut between 1986 and 1990, claimed that Mahathir’s Dasar Penerapan Nilai-Nilai Islam caused deep divisions between the different races and even within the Muslim community.

Now that Pakatan was preparing for a major convention, he said, it should respect the public’s right to know where it stood on the matter.

“While the idea of instilling Islamic values is laudable, not much thought was given to its implementation,” he told FMT. “Mahathir and Anwar are both big on ideas but not so hot on the follow through.”

When the policy was introduced in 1985, Mahathir said that since Islam was the official religion of the country, Islamic values ought to be applied in administration in order to increase the quality of the government’s work.

Tawfik noted that when Abdullah Ahmad Badawi came to power and promoted Islam Hadhari (Civilisational Islam), both Mahathir and Anwar belittled the effort.

“They mobilised hardliners in order to discredit him,” he claimed. “Why would the two of them be any different in 2018? That’s the danger in trusting Pakatan. It’s like riding a tiger.”

Tawfik also took Pakatan to task for alleged lack of firmness in opposing PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s tabling of a private member’s bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965, intended to arm shariah courts with greater powers.

“It was deeply disappointing that the Malay and Muslim MPs in Pakatan did not stand up against Hadi,” he said, alleging that the bill was unconstitutional.

“If Pakatan MPs cannot uphold their oath to defend the constitution, then there is little to choose between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan.

“The battle for the Malay vote and, at the moment, the fear of going against the ulama version of Islam by both sides is a disappointment to progressive Malays as well as other ethnic groups.”

Tawfik Ismail is of course the son of the late (former) DPM Tun Dr Ismail, said to be the 'best PM we Malaysians never had' (and not Ku Li, as has been popularly propaganda-ed).

Tun Dr Ismail was a man who spoke his mind but always carefully and with fairness and reason. That was why the late Tun Razak trusted him totally.

Robert Kuok said Tun Dr Ismail was the most non-racist Malay he ever had the privilege of knowing. Tawfik Ismail looks like he's the durian that didn't fall far from the durian tree.

Appropriately, Tawfik Ismail should be the person to criticise Mahathir. Robert Kuok said that Mahathir was shit-scared of Tawfik's father, the late Tun Dr Ismail (who preferred Musa Hitam to Mahathir).

But will DAP ask Mahathir his stand now on his Dasar Penerapan Nilai-Nilai Islam, to wit, the application of Islamic values in administration in order to increase the quality of the government’s work?

[which we haven't seen much of, other than RM1 Billion of non-Muslim taxpayers' money per annum budget for JAKIM, arrests of several khalwat cases including a married couple, renaming of Aunt Annie's pretzel dogs into pretzel cats and Muslim-only launderettes, etc but non-Muslim money was not considered 'unclean']

Didn't Lim Kit Siang rail, rant and rave about Mahathir's 929 & 617 Declarations which arbitrarily turned Malaysia overnight into a 'fundamentalist Muslim nation'?

Can Lim Kit Siang remember that he wrote about his BFF now, Mahathir, who said "Malaysia is not a moderate Islamic state but a Islamic fundamentalist state"?

In that dictatorial statement, unapproved by parliament, Mahathir demonstrated his arrogance in dismissing any notion that Malaysia was a moderate Islamic state. He pompously declared "Malaysia is not a moderate Islamic state but a Islamic fundamentalist state".

So we like to know where Mahathir now stands on his Dasar Penerapan Nilai-Nilai Islam? Please, YB Lim Kit Siang, ask your best buddy.

Do you think Lim Kit Siang will?

And without going further on Hadi Awang's UDD335, Tawfik has been absolutely right that “The battle for the Malay vote and, at the moment, the fear of going against the ulama version of Islam by both sides" have made mutes and act-dunno's out of Pakatan and BN people, with one sole exception, namely, Zaid Ibrahim.

[I will talk about Zaid soon - be patient, wakakaka]

  2. Most muslims want UDD 335 to be implemented. It is not a choice or coercion. It is not Hadi's. It is what and how muslims should be governed. God's law is constant and consistent; it never change with time, place and people.

    2. Many Malay-Muslims don't know their own god. What their god said in their religious book, in this case, the Koran, these Malay-Muslims generally do not get it...they need others to interpret and if these interpreters were to add in their own opinions and 'advice', then these Malay-Muslims will wholesale accept as gospel truth. Thats's why these ulamaks will fight to death any challenge to their power and authority and that's how the late Kassim Ahmad even at his venerable old age ain't got absolutely no compassion or justice at the hands of these towel heads. Thank god for the secular civil court which finally allow that old man to be released from the grasps of these so-called holy men
