GEORGE TOWN, Jan 11 — Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said today that his corruption trial, which will start on March 26, may affect his candidacy in the 14th general elections (GE14).
The Penang lawmaker, who is also DAP secretary-general, said he will have to attend the trial in the Penang High Court which will be held on four to five-day stretches between March and May.
When asked if this will affect his candidacy if GE14 were to fall on that period, he replied “perhaps”.
Lim then questioned the reasons behind the amendments to his charges.
“You are charging a chief minister. Why is there a need to amend the charges now?” he asked.
Yesterday, the Penang High Court fixed the trial for both Lim and businesswoman Phang Li Koon on March 26 to 30, April 9 to 12, April 23 to 27, May 7 to 10 and May 21 to 25 this year.
Looks like there are very happy larks in BN, especially in Gerakan and to an extent MCA, though it has already been agreed earlier than Chow Kon Keow will be the future CM of Penang, that is, if Pakatan (DAP) wins the next state elections coinciding with GE14.
Thus the only damage for DAP will be Guan Eng not becoming an ADUN in Penang and a Penang MP for federal parliament. Some DAP members will replace him. Nathaniel Tan will also be happy - see my previous post Nathaniel Tan’s cherry-picking and missing the elephant in the room.
Mind, there's still a way to bring him into Parliament though with a less effective 'voice'. If DAP wins Penang again, Guan Eng may be nominated as a Senator from Penang, though this will reduce the representation vacancy for senior Malay and Indian DAP members who may not wish to contest in GE14.

Sakti-ness, coincidence and his dad's matey ensures Guan Eng will have a very hard if not almost impossible time dealing with the alleged corruption charges and the coming elections.
Oh, if you ask who is his dad's matey, read/view below:
Yes sir, what does Lim Kit Siang now say when his son is facing corruption charges from the MACC? And if the MACC can't get him on this charge there is still the case of the undersea tunnel as a backup.
Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me - Deuteronomy 5:9 (KJV)
And what will Lim Kit Siang say when his chum Mahathir as Pakatan's PM revive his Mahathirism?
Anyway, back to topic - Yet, it's not just Gerakan, MCA, UMNO or Nathaniel Tan who will be or are happy but probably the most happy could be some so-called allies in Pakatan Harapan, wakakaka. The 'Tokong' will now be kow-tim-ed kaukau.
No...you are falling into Bush-bullshit of "You are either with us or you are against us."
ReplyDeleteLim Guan Eng has been criticised for his heavy-handed style as well as policy areas such as the Penang DAP government's partiality towards Developers, leading to inattention towards the environment.
This does not mean that those people are happy to see parties aligned to Najib Tun Gasak.
Perhaps. LGE and RR too.
ReplyDeleteRR?
DeleteFrom PKR?
DeleteThe situation looks Very Bad for Lim Guan Eng.
ReplyDeleteHe could soon be facing 2 corruption trials at the same time, and risks being incarcerated for a long , long time.
hope the trails will be conducted fairly
DeleteThe Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act is very tough, and uniquely passes a burden to the defendant to prove his innocence.
DeleteLim Guan Eng already faces this in having to submit his defence even before the prosecution starts.
The government wins 80% of the cases brought to trial.
Ohh..if only in the state of Penang, LGE has the equivalent of the Federal OSA...semua investigation masuk dalam Official Secret Act..macam 1MDB...wakakakaka.
DeleteMany China Emperors, and a great many leaders around the world, prefer to work with officials of "flexible" honour.
ReplyDeleteSuch men a more easily persuaded for the right price.
In ancient China, the consequences of earning the Emperor's ire were usually fatal.
It still is in many countries.
