But I want to point out one amazing thing, that Malaysians are incredible people, especilaly for their renowned generosity and compassion.
They rescued Looi Say Chye and his family who were evicted from a flat in Penang's Rifle Range, when a generous Samaritan provided him with a one-year rent-free alternative flat, and another gave him a job and the local Rifle Range Village Security Development Committee collected more than RM6,000 to see the 52-year old man and his family through to a better life.

They also helped A. Manaf Mohd Noh (81 years old) settled his RM800,000 hospital bill in South Korea. After caring for his (late) ailing wife, his children sent him to the Hermit Kingdom on a holiday but alas, he too fell sick there, discovered he had a heart condition, had an operation and the bills kept stacking up. But Malaysians rallied to his desperate cause as the hospital would not release him until the debts were settled.
Years back, when then-blogger Jeff Ooi of the famous Screenshot blog highlighted the hole-in-a-heart condition of a young Malay sweetie, that lil' girl's dad was amazed at the generosity of Malaysians donating more than enough money to see lil' sweetie taken care of medically including a heart operation.
And the recent floods in Malaysia saw such generosity and compassion everywhere with the most dramatic in Penang when a bilal opened his Taman Free School surau to more than 70 non-Muslims fleeing from the floods. Though there was exceptional criticisms from hardliner Muslims like notorious Zamihan, the rest of Malaysia held bilal Sapno Tukijo in awe, respect and affection.
In total contrast to generally compassionate and generous Malaysians, Zamihan Mat Zin of JAKIM criticised the bilal's kind action, saying (as reported by NST) the Penang flood situation should not be categorised as an 'emergency' in order to give shelter for non-Muslims.

“There are still other alternatives for their needs. And the management should remind them of manners and conditions to protect the purity of the mosque.”
Zamihan's divisive-mindedness was exhibited again when he criticised HM Johor for prohibiting Muslim-Only launderette in Johor. He was not only promoting divisiveness but also being biadab to HM, a very unusual attitude and attribute of a Malay. The reverence of DAP members towards Malay rulers would definitely put such a so-called Malay to shame.
Zamihan showed his divisiveness once more when recently he set conditions for Muslims to visit Christians celebrating Christmas into a farce, in which his fatwa-ed conditions virtually eliminated any practical Muslim visits to places with Christmas trappings.
That effectively meant 'no visit to any Christian celebrations of Christmas', reflecting once again his powerful inclination towards socio-religious divisiveness.
We do NOT want such a socio-religious divisive renegade in our society of generally compassionate and generous Malaysians, a man who has already been shunned by the rulers of Johor and Selangor.
Mean-minded Zamihan sounded like a so-called elder statesman, who showed he was no statesman when he viciously execrating the future residents of Forest City in JB as simians in saying “I hope Forest City will truly become a forest … Its residents will consist of baboons, monkeys and so on.”
But those have been the exceptions to the general rule of compassionate and generous Malaysians.
Be joyful we started the new year of 2018 with such a track record of compassion and generosity at the coalface of society. Syabas.

There are many objectionable aspects to the Forrest City project, from environmental, economic, sociological and , yes, immigration point of view.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately , a certain Royal who has a major private financial profitability stake in the project has virtually declared it seditious to oppose the project, amounting to criticism of the Royal institution.
That attempt to confuse private personal gain with the Royal institution alone I consider a serious conflict of interest .
Legitimate opposition to the Forrest City project has been silenced, at least within Malaysia.
Only a person of Mahathir's stature dares to continue to publicly voice criticism, and I'm inclined forgive his colourful language.

DeleteShenzen is the model for the Forest City. I have been to Shenzen twice. Once a sleepy village of 30,000 it is now a 10 million metropolis. That's almost twice Singapore. With the High Speed Rail in operation when Forest City project is fully completed, and complemented by local LRT and Singapore MRT, well JB will be like Hong Kong and Shenzen one day. But why not? It is awesome. Daulat Tuanku.

Small and Medium scale China supporting industries, which over time grew into major successful industries in their own right. Massive employment of local workforce, creating a large middle-class.
