Bombshell - how Mahathir kowtim-ed Anwar Ibrahim kaukau

Lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah claims it was Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad who had pushed for him to be appointed special prosecutor in Anwar Ibrahim's Sodomy II trial.

Shafee claimed that in 2013, then-prime minister Najib Abdul Razak was not keen on appointing him as a prosecutor by way of fiat, as he did not want to offend the attorney-general at the time, Abdul Gani Patail.

"In fact, he was most reluctant.

"However, it was Mahathir who insisted that I be appointed as the special prosecutor in Anwar’s appeals, as Mahathir did not have the confidence that the Attorney-General’s Chambers would be able to competently manage the appeals.

"This is probably due to the fact that the AGC had lost the Sodomy II case in the High Court," he said in a statement today. [...]

Shafee said he had worked for Mahathir numerous times when the latter was Umno president since the early 1990s, representing it and other BN parties in cases ranging from election petitions to litigations.

However, he said most of his work had gone unpaid.

"I have accrued many uncollected bills for my legal work from the days of Mahathir as the prime minister, especially during the period when Mohamed Rahmat was the secretary-general of Umno and BN," he said.

Shafee added this matter had been brought up during a meeting with Najib in Sept 2013, following which the latter agreed to pay him RM9.5 million as a settlement for 46 election petitions Shafee had handled for Umno and BN since the 1990s.

What a bloody bombshell - it exploded right in front of Maddy's face. And it's not that Anwar has been unaware of Maddy stabbing him every now & then - they have been and still are mortal foes.

But I find it reasonably plausible as I have often written how Maddy hates Anwar with a vengeance - once the Old Man hates you, he'll be out to get you, and kaukau too.

The three persons he hates MOST are Anwar Ibrahim, KJ (sometimes Maddy whacks AAB because of KJ but the s-i-l is the real target) and today of course Najib.

I suspect the reasons are/were (with regards to Anwar, KJ and Najib respectively):

(a) Anwar because of (i) his attempt to oust Mahathir out prematurely in 1997, and (ii) also as Finance Minister, Anwar was rumoured to have refused a government loan of RM2 Billion to Maddy's son (Mirzan) for his (at that time) collapsing shipping line Konsortium Perkapalan Bhd,

(b) when AAB was PM, KJ had "offended" Mukhriz (I am not allowed to say more), and

(c) you know how Najib and Maddy split apart so I needn't say anything other than Najib not helping Mukhriz win an UMNO VP position, without which the PM position from and for Mukhriz was wider than a mile.

As we can see, everyone of his arch-foes had something to do with one of his sons - no one fCk around with Maddy's sons.

Anyway, back to the bombshell by Shafee, as I said, it isn't implausible that Mahathir wanted to kowtim Anwar kaukau. He hates Anwar invincibly, thus I have often said, he won't give up the PM seat to Anwar.

One of the ways is to fCk up Anwar's chances in the coming by-election organised for the PKR Boss. And that has been why PKR is keeping it highly confidential where Anwar will be contesting, apart from throwing a few red herrings around.

Pre-knowledge of the constituency Anwar will be contesting will be a danger to Anwar's chances as SABOTAGE is most likely. If Anwar fails his by-election, he is totally kaput.

But Maddy has shot his own foot - he's not as sharp as he used to be.
