The Trump administration has approved a $2.8 billion package to send 2,000-pound bombs to Israel. This would include 40,000 bombs, made up of 20,000 Mk84s and 20,000 BLU-117s.
Though often characterized as a weapons "sale," it is facilitated by U.S. Foreign Military Financing, a program that uses U.S. taxpayer money to let Israel buy American-made weapons.
Human rights groups and governments around the world have condemned Israel for dropping the 2,000-pound bombs in densely populated civilian areas in Gaza.
