Gurney Bay contractor
fined RM1.6mil over
delays
Phase One of the project was meant to be completed on March 30, 2023, but only opened to the public on Feb 4 this year.
PETALING JAYA: The contractor that developed the first phase of the Gurney Bay project has been slapped with a RM1.6 million fine for failing to deliver the project on time.
Local government, town and country planning executive councillor Jason H’ng said Phase One of the project was meant to be completed on March 30 last year but experienced prolonged delays.
He said three extensions were given – May 29, July 4 and Nov 30 – before the project was finally completed and opened to the public on Feb 4 this year, reported state government-owned Buletin Mutiara.
“A total of RM24,756.22 was imposed in fines per day for the delay,” he said in the state assembly today.
The RM247 million Gurney Bay project, which covers 11.2ha, comprises Phases One and Two. The first phase opened in February, boasting a viewing deck, playground, skate park, kiosks, toilet and open-air car parks, with a promenade around the park right next to the sea.
Phase Two is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
It will include a hawker centre, a multi-level car park, a vantage point, toilets, a water taxi jetty, beach, boardwalk and water garden.
