‘Gatecrasher’ Idris ticked off for coming to Umno meet
Former Melaka assemblyman Idris Haron was criticised by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan.
PETALING JAYA: Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan has criticised former Sungai Udang assemblyman Idris Haron for his “stunt” in purportedly turning up at the Klebang Kecil Umno branch meeting today.
But Idris, who was recently stripped of his Umno membership, said he had only gone to the venue, at a residence near his house, to ask them to be less noisy.
Idris was recently stripped of his Umno membership for his role in bringing down the Melaka state government.
His presence at the meeting was criticised by Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan, who said Idris should have gone elsewhere if he wanted to hold a ceramah.
Ahmad said Idris was aware that he had been sacked from Umno through a letter of dismissal issued on Oct 5.
“It has been confirmed in the supreme council meeting that his membership has been stripped down. Why would someone who is not a member turn up at an Umno meeting? If he wants to hold a ceramah he should find another place, not at an Umno meeting” Ahmad said, according to a report by Astro Awani.
However, Idris denied that he had caused a stir at the meeting.
Idris told Harian Metro that his home was near the venue, an Umno branch leader’s residence.
“While I was speaking with my mother, Umno members were gathering for the Umno meeting and were noisy. I went over to the house to ask them to keep it down as they were too noisy while I was talking to my mother but they were stubborn,” he was quoted as saying.
He said the Umno meeting had yet to start when he went over.
Idris, a former Melaka chief minister and former state Umno leader, was among four assembly members who withdrew support from the state government, which led to the dissolution of the state assembly.
