Guan Eng acting like he is still Penang CM

FMT:

Guan Eng acting like he is still Penang CM, says Wee

Wee Ka Siong (right) alleges that Lim Guan Eng has ruined Penang’s cultural values.

PETALING JAYA: Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong has taken another swipe at former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng over the Penang ferry issue, questioning the latter’s right to raise the matter.

The MCA president said Lim was acting as if he is sharing the leadership of the state with Chow Kon Yeow.

“Many Penangites are confused and are wondering if there are two chief ministers, with Chow Kon Yeow being the weekday chief minister while Lim Guan Eng acts as the weekend chief minister.

“The Penang chief minister recognised by the federal government is Chow Kon Yeow,” Wee said in a post on his Facebook page.

“Whatever decision about the ferry services, (Finance Minister) Tengku Zafrul Aziz and I will discuss with the real Chief Minister, CKY!”

Stating that the decision to replace Penang’s ferry services with catamaran vessels was agreed upon by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government, Wee said Lim’s sister Lim Hui Yang – who is also a senator – had also agreed with the move.

“Looks like the Lim family should call for a family meeting to standardise their views,” Wee said.

Hitting back at Lim’s claims that the federal government’s plan for the ferries ignored Penang’s heritage and history, Wee said Lim was responsible for “truly ruining” Penang’s cultural values.

“Who was the one who carried out land reclamation and destroyed the hills?,” he asked.

“Thirdly, isn’t replacing ferry services that are prone to breakdowns with catamarans a more practical move to protect the safety of Penangites and more beneficial to Penang’s travel and transport industries?”

Wee previously said old ferries will make way for “safer, faster and cheaper-to-maintain” water buses (to carry passengers) and transporters (to carry motorcycles), which are expected to arrive by mid-2022.

Yesterday, Lim said plans to cancel the iconic 126-year-old Penang ferry service at the end of the year proved that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government was in “open confrontation” with the people of Penang, adding that the effort was led by Wee.

The DAP secretary-general said that apart from the loss of the old ferries, there were several other development projects approved by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government which were cancelled by the PN administration.

This, he said, meant Penangites and their children would “never forgive” the “vindictive, vengeance politics” of MCA and Wee.

kt notes:

When I was a village kid, my late mum used to admonish me for "ai choi soo" (nak cari pasal). Looks like Lim Guan Eng requires my late mum's admonition too.

Guan Eng knows that he and his treacherous KHAT-Sial-ish dad are in the popularity doldrums, and thus is trying hard, indeed damn hard, to retain attention and hopefully restore his once-invincible popularity.

We have had enough of his 'beloved Atuk' kerbau and hopeless relentless feral attacks on other Chinese-based political parties, not forgetting his marginalisation of some of his own party members.

MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon got trashed by Anthony Loke in GE14 in Seremban, then didn't even get backdoor Senatorship but 2 years later got appointed as Port Klang Boss, MCA's PKFZ disaster that KT always never mention because it is Jibby's scandal. Now he want to "ai choi soo" in Penang pula.....

Loke slams MCA leader over ferry comments, tells him to focus on Port Klang
    FMT Reporters -December 27, 2020

PETALING JAYA: Former transport minister Loke Siew Fook has advised MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon to focus on tackling cargo problems in Port Klang instead of interfering in the Penang ferry issue.

He said this was because the Penang ferry issue had nothing to do with Chong.

“After disappearing for almost two years having been rejected by voters in Seremban in the last general election (GE14), Chong was appointed as Port Klang Board chairman by his boss (Wee Ka Siong), who entered the transport ministry through the back door,” he said in a Facebook post today.

He was referring to Chong’s statement yesterday saying Loke had announced plans under the previous Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration to implement water taxis or “catamaran boats” to replace part of the Penang ferry service this year.

Loke turned the tables on Chong, asking him to first settle the cargo backlog problems that had been reported at Westport.

“If he does not understand what I announced in 2019, read carefully,” he said, quoting Astro Awani’s report on his announcement to upgrade the ferry service during his tenure as transport minister.

On Aug 23 last year, Loke had said the project to upgrade the Penang ferry service would be carried out this year under Syarikat Prasarana Malaysia. This included introducing catamaran-type boats as well as a ferry to carry tourists.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Wee had been issuing statements on the ferry service, with the former Penang chief minister upset that the “iconic ferries” were being phased out to be replaced with more efficient ferries.

He said this was a “cold and callous” approach by the federal government which ignored the sentiments of the locals and took the “romance” out of cross-channel travel.

“Many countries still retain their original ferry services even though it may not be economical due to their intrinsic worth and intangible value to heritage and history,” Lim had said.

He also said the cancellation of the service provided by the old Penang ferries was an example of Perikatan Nasional (PN) government’s “open confrontation” with the DAP-led Penang government, with Wee acting as its “hatchet man”.

Lim said MCA and Wee, who is MCA president, would not be forgiven by the people of Penang for doing so.

Wee had cleared the initial confusion over whether the old ferries would be repaired and retained by announcing that they would be retired for good.
