Please take a look at Wikipedia on topic Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party or PMIP. For those PAS newcomers, PMIP was what your party was known by in earlier days when English was used as the official language (and even unto some many years after Merdeka), ...

... and which has been why UMNO is UMNO and not something like Organisasi (or Parti) Kebangasaan Melayu Bersatu - yes, the abbreviation UMNO is in English, wakakaka, which makes me wonder why Dr Mahathir hasn't changed it, he being the xenophobe he has presented himself to be, wakakaka again.
UMNO |
Anyway, much to my shock, I read the opening sentence in the Wikipedia topic as:
The Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (Malay: Parti Islam Se-Malaysia) (Jawi: ڤرتي اسلام س-مليسيا) commonly known as PAS or Pas, is an Islamist political party in Malaysia and is currently headed by Dato' Seri anus.
After-note: since my heads-up to PAS, the Wiki-post has been amended.
I just couldn't believe my eyes so I clicked on that word-link to see if it leads to perhaps some Arabic or Latin or even Swahili translation for that word which means something proper, but alas, it took me to a page where the opening paragraph is:
The anus is an opening at the opposite end of an animal's digestive tract from the mouth. Its function is to control the expulsion of feces, unwanted semi-solid matter produced during digestion, which, depending on the type of animal, may be one or more of: matter which the animal cannot digest, such as bones; food material after all the nutrients have been extracted, for example cellulose or lignin; ingested matter which would be toxic if it remained in the digestive tract; and dead or excess gut bacteria and other endosymbionts.

ReplyDeleteAccording to Helen Ang, PAS is known as "PIS-PUS-and-PMIP" in her blog http://helenang.wordpress.com/2012/12/09/correctly-interpreting-dr-ms-islamic-country-declaration-of-2001/
ReplyDeletewikipedia allow open editing, for wiki entry susceptible to abuse in future, the admin may require one to logon to edit, an extra step to stop those one-time-vandal.
ReplyDeleteBe fair to Ktemoc - he was only quoting from wiki! He didn't say it was his! Perhaps we can blame it on our level of English proficiency.
ReplyDeleteDear KTemoc,
ReplyDeleteYou can sit up straight and puff up your chest because I am going to offer you hosannas, adulation and praise for this posting of yours. In all your years of writing this blog, in my sincere opinion this piece is the best, bar none.
Well, fortunately, it is Dato' Seri anus and NOT Anuswar. Now that will surely cause some of your loyal readers to go rioting - screaming and breaking things - in the streets.
This sentence of yours is also a brilliant gem which I adore: "why UMNO is UMNO and not something like Organisasi (or Parti) Kebangasaan Melayu Bersatu - yes, the abbreviation UMNO is in English, wakakaka, which makes me wonder why Dr Mahathir hasn't changed it, he being the xenophobe he has presented himself to be, wakakaka again."
Do write and put out more like this. What you do is not only just a public service for PAS but countless other Malaysians will absolutely be thrilled and applaud you for your efforts.
Bwahahahaha.....kaytee, oh kaytee...trust you to look PAS up at good olde wikipete at this exact moment when we all need some ROFL....thank u.

Wikipedia has its uses, namely very up-to-date edits, sometimes within hours of events relating to the subject, and, in some cases, in-depth explanations made readable for the layman from very knowledgeable experts. On hard-knowledge such as the sciences, mathematics and old history, Wikipedia can be very useful.
ReplyDeleteA major, major limitation and risk of Wikipedia is that there is a large, amorphous group of people who are allowed to edit the posts, not all of whom have the interest of scholarship and truth at heart.
On subjects which attract controversy, Wikipedia posts can stray far from the truth.
This is obviously one such case here.
One main reason Wikipedia is generally NOT acceptable for academic anotation and reference.
Hey, Toothless one , don't you have anything better to do ?
