Iran war: Tehran says conditions for ending war sent to US via Qatar

• Iran’s security chief Moshen Rezaei tells Al Jazeera conditions for ending war – stopping attacks on all fronts, release of frozen Iranian funds, end of blockade – have been sent to US via mediator Qatar, and are awaiting a response from US President Donald Trump.
• Yemen’s Houthis say attacked what they called “sensitive” sites in Riyadh with ballistic missile, drones, in addition to an ARAMCO facility in Yanbu.
• Saudi-led coalition forces said that a ballistic missile fired towards Riyadh was intercepted, and that Houthi attempts to target Taif, Baish, Farasan, and Yanbu were thwarted.
• At least six Palestinians, including a girl, have been killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza despite a “ceasefire”.

  No sign US-Iran deadlock will break soon, expert says

  Stephen Zunes, founding chair of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of San Francisco, says he sees little sign that the current US-Iran deadlock will break in the coming weeks.

  “Unfortunately, no,” Zunes told Al Jazeera when asked whether either side appeared ready to shift its position.

  He said Iran was prepared to endure “increasingly tightening sanctions” and even risk further damage if fighting flares up again, while the Trump administration also appears unwilling to make significant concessions.

  Zunes said Iran’s demand for the war to end “on all fronts” could now extend to Yemen, where fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia has intensified.

  A ceasefire in place, he argued, would be “to the Houthis’ advantage” following their recent advances and could, by extension, strengthen Iran’s regional position.

  US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has kicked off his “Send Me Tour” in Texas, invoking the biblical words, “Whom shall I send?”, a reference to Isaiah’s declaration, “Here am I. Send me.”

  The military outreach comes as Hegseth’s net favourability fell to a record low of -24 points in a Marquette Law School poll amid growing public frustration over the Iran war.

  US urges citizens to exercise caution across Middle East as Saudi-Houthi fighting could ‘escalate rapidly’

  The United States has warned its citizens in Iraq, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, Lebanon, Kuwait and Jordan to exercise “heightened vigilance”, warning that “the security environment remains complex with the potential for unforeseen escalation”.

  The alerts pointed to fighting between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia, including attacks affecting civilian airports, warning that “this military conflict has the potential to escalate rapidly”.

  In separate security alerts dated September 19, US diplomatic missions in the nine countries said the security environment in the Middle East poses “the risk of flight cancellations, airspace closures and travel disruptions as regional tensions rise”.

  They also warned that Iran and groups supportive of Tehran could target US interests overseas or locations associated with Americans.

  US citizens were advised to monitor airline and airport operations, avoid demonstrations and large gatherings and follow instructions from local authorities.
