    Global Share: According to data tracked by organizations like the Global Energy Monitor, China and India represent nearly 90% of all coal development worldwide, with China alone responsible for the vast majority of new construction starts.

    2026 Projections: China is expected to commission 55 GW out of 63 GW of total new coal capacity coming online globally (roughly 85 out of 104 new units worldwide).

      Dr Simon Cook, a glacier expert with the University of Dundee, told the BBC his team had detected that the lower part of a glacier in Nepal near the Langtang Lirung peak - which is approximately 15km (9 miles) west of the site of the floods - had collapsed.
