Meet Penang DAP over move to retain BN in state govt, Chow told
DAP adviser Lim Guan Eng says the Penang CM should not assume that delegates endorsed the decision simply because the matter was not raised at the meeting on Wednesday.
The Air Putih assemblyman said such a meeting was necessary for Chow to gauge the sentiments of state party leaders, given the tensions between Umno and DAP at the federal level following the recent state elections.
“Chow should not presume that all Penang delegates endorsed his decision merely because no one raised the matter at Wednesday’s meeting,” he said in a Facebook post.
Lim was referring to a meeting of delegates from Penang, Kedah and Perlis to discuss whether the party should remain in the unity government.
He said neither he nor any other party delegate raised the issue of Penang Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) decision at the meeting, “principally because its sole agenda was whether DAP should leave or stay in the federal government”.
The meeting was never about Umno’s role in the state government, Lim added.
Lim said Chow should call another meeting with Penang DAP, focused on the message Penang PH intended to send to voters by retaining Umno in the state government.
Last week, Penang PH decided to maintain its cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) in the state despite BN forging an alliance with opposition coalition Perikatan Nasional for the Negeri Sembilan polls.
Chow said the leadership unanimously decided to retain BN’s sole executive councillor, Rashidi Zinol, in the state administration.
Lim, however, criticised the move, saying it was incomprehensible and essentially an “unconditional endorsement” of Umno’s role in the state government. He urged the Penang PH leadership to “act decisively”, saying PN had become Umno’s friend.
Chow, however, dismissed Lim’s call, saying nobody had raised the matter at Wednesday’s meeting.
