• US President Donald Trump says he has cancelled planned attacks on Iran “subject to being able to rapidly make a deal”.
• He says Iran and other countries in the Middle East asked him to hold off any attack as “the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to”, including the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
• The announcement came after Iran’s ⁠Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned that any “aggression” by ‌the US and Israel will ⁠be met with a “decisive ⁠and proportionate response” in separate phone calls with the army chief of Pakistan and the foreign ministers of Turkiye and Saudi Arabia.
• Israeli forces have killed at least eight Palestinians across the Gaza Strip and destroyed a medical warehouse in Deir el-Balah, leaving a crater 20 metres (66ft) wide and 10 metres (33ft) deep.

  “The U.S.A. is locked and loaded and ready to go against the Islamic Republic of Iran, at levels of Military Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II. Despite this, we have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to. This would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.

  “Based on this request, I have agreed, for the future benefit of the WORLD and, likewise, the survival of a successful and prosperous Iran, to cancel the attack, subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL. The Country of Israel joins me in this commitment. Get to work, everybody, and get it DONE.

  Trump says the ‘perimeters of a deal has been agreed to’

  We have more from the US president’s statement on cancelling the attacks on Iran.

  He said on his Truth Social account that the US had been ready to unleash “Terror, Strength, and Power not seen since World War II” against Iran. But he said, “We have just been asked” by Iran and other countries to hold off any attack because “the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to”.

  The deal would include the “total opening” of the Strait of Hormuz and an “end to Iran’s nuclear threat”.
