Focus Malaysia:
RPK blames UMNO for making Najib “the biggest crook, pirate, plunderer in the Malaysian history”
FUGITIVE blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) has taken UMNO to task for the downfall of incarcerated sixth premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak who was left no better option but to establish strategic development outfit 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) as the party’s ultimate funding source.
Stating that he is “not faulting Najib”, the mercenary blogger with an opposition slant defended the former Pekan MP that “1MDB is not so much a matter of power abuse” although the then Pakatan Harapan (PH) opposition accused Najib of indulgence in power abuse and corruption.
“IMDB to me is merely another platform for UMNO to solicit funding … During Mahathir’s (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) time, UMNO had already been siphoning the nation’s wealth through the various privatisation exercises,” he argued in his latest video clip which is made accessible on YouTube.
“All UMNO proxy companies whether they were highway concessionaire PLUS Malaysia Bhd or independent power producers (IPPs) are none other than a way to make money to fund UMNO and Barisan Nasional (BN).”
Unfortunately, the self-exiled RPK claimed that during Najib’s time, “there was nothing left to privatise or plunder, hence the need to create a new agency in 1MDB as a funding source for UMNO”.
“This happened because the existing UMNO money was not passed down to Najib,” RPK who is on the wanted list of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) pointed out from his residence in Manchester, UK.
“Former UMNO leaders including their proxies and trustees had run away with the money estimated to be as much as RM100 bil … By the time Najib assumed his premiership, the coffers had already dried up.”
Added editor of the Malaysia Today news portal: “Therefore, Najib was left with no better option but to establish 1MDB as his ultimate funding source … If Najib didn’t embark on the establishment of 1MDB, UMNO would have collapsed.
“So, we defended Najib for it was a necessary evil although no doubt his action has been regarded as an abuse of power … It’s easy to blame Najib but one has to understand that the end justifies the means which is that Najib had to save the impoverished UMNO; the detractors have to understand that this is all part and parcel of politics.”
RPK calling it a day?
In the same video clip RPK also ‘confessed’ that he is already exhausted of “whacking and fighting for a change of government which I’ve been doing since my early 20s till now when I’m about to clock 74 of age”.
According to RPK, he had started his career as a dissident or anti-establishment in his 20s ever since the administration of third premier Tun Hussein Onn (1976-1981). Here is RPK’s take (verbatim):
Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK)
Fine, we want to replace Anwar (Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim), topple him, force him to step down but who is capable of taking over when we’ve not been able to accept every previous PMs since Tun Hussein Onn.
Supposedly, Anwar is forced to step down through passing of the vote of no confidence in the Parliament, then who can we look up to as PMXI (11th PM)?
There is no human who’s 100% useless or hopeless but we’ve to be fair that we only relate the bad side of the person as he’s our political enemy. Obviously, it’s the nature of our job to instigate anger against the government … we just stir up all negative issues while bury the positive ones.
Imagine that Najib was once the biggest crook, pirate in the Malaysian history but now suddenly the disgraced former Pekan MP is deemed better than Anwar …I think we’ve had enough of the game of changing PM.
We should talk first on who the PMXI candidate is first before we talk about toppling Anwar … As it is, my frank opinion is that we don’t have a suitable replacement who can guarantee us that he’ll do a better job than the current PM.
Unless we can find a suitable alternative, we should best stop from opposing for the sake of opposing or insisting for a change of PM given every time we’ve a new government, we continue to complain as if we are getting a worse off government than the previous government. – March 2, 2024
