Traffic cop in hot water for asking tourists RM100 to 'settle' ticket
Bukit Aman is investigating a viral video clip showing a traffic police officer allegedly taking RM100 from two foreign tourists on the pretext of “settling” the travellers' speeding ticket.
Federal police Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department director Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said they are aware of the video and vowed to leave no stone unturned.
"We took note of the incident and a thorough investigation is being carried out to ascertain the allegation.
"We will not tolerate any wrongdoing by any officer or personnel involved," he said in a statement.
Azman urged anyone with information on the incident to come forward and assist in their investigation.
The video clip, which started making its rounds on X earlier today, showed the tourists from the UK being stopped by traffic police for allegedly speeding on a highway.

One of the tourists, who was driving a van, then asked the officer what they had to do next and the officer replied they had two options.
"I issue saman (summons) and then you pay at the police station. Or, pay here.
"Pay at the police station, RM300. Pay here, RM100," he was overheard telling the woman.
The officer was then seen taking cash from the other tourist before the driver asked him if he needed to check their documents.
"No, no, no. Settle," he told the tourists, who later shared their video recording of the encounter on their YouTube channel.
It was learned that the tourists are travelling around the world in their van, and have a wide following on YouTube for documenting their globetrotting adventures.
According to the original video which was uploaded on their channel earlier today, the incident occurred sometime in December and Malaysia was the 37th country they had visited.
It was understood that the incident had occurred in Perak.
