MCA Youth wants RM10 docked from unprepared deputy minister's salary
MCA Youth has called on parliamentarians to file a motion in the august House to deduct RM10 from Lim Hui Ying’s salary over the deputy education minister’s failure to prepare an answer for today’s oral question-and-answer session.
Its secretary-general Daniel Wa Wai Hou said in a statement today that the pay cut is necessary and would serve as a symbolic punishment to the DAP lawmaker, who lacked professionalism.
Wa stressed that responding to questions from MPs in the Dewan Rakyat is the basic duty of ministers and deputy ministers.
He added that relevant issues and questions have been prepared and distributed to relevant ministries and government departments in advance for replies, which are prepared by officers from the aforementioned ministries and government departments.
“It is, thus, inconceivable and even tantamount to negligence to claim that the government department did not prepare the answers.
“This also suggests that the deputy minister (Lim, above) is not familiar with the operations and subject matters of the various government departments
“The people will find it impossible to accept this mistake. If ministers and deputy ministers do not take their basic duties seriously, how can the rakyat have confidence in this government to manage our nation properly?” he asked.
Meanwhile, Wa recollected past incidents where DAP bandied an RM10 salary deduction from cabinet ministers and the same symbolic salary cut should be imposed on Lim.
Mah takes a sarcastic swipe
MCA deputy president Mah Hang Soon also did not pass up the opportunity to take Lim to the task.
On his Facebook, Mah took a sarcastic swipe at Lim, and likened her parliamentary performance to “a student coming to school for an oral exam and admitting they haven’t done their homework”.

Ma added: “Perhaps Lim had stayed up late the night before and rushed here (to Parliament) from a banquet in Penang, so please forgive her.”
Earlier today, deputy speaker Ramli Mohd Nor reprimanded Lim for her failure to prepare a response to Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (PN-Pengkalan Chepa) who sought the education minister's explanation on the Supplementary Food Programme at schools.
Marzuk wanted to know how much the government was allocating for the programme, and the mechanism it used to monitor the quality of the food served under the programme.
However, the question was met with a long pause from Lim, before Ramli asked the deputy minister if she had an answer, to which Lim replied in the negative.
Lim's remark irked opposition MPs, including Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran), who said such a blunder should not happen in the Dewan Rakyat.
Ramli said the incident should not have happened and expressed hope that the government and leader of the House would take note of it.
Lim’s special functions officer, Lim Swee Kuan, later apologised for the oversight, which he said happened out of the usual norms.
Both DAP and MCA are component parties in Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration.
