Zuraida remains in the Cabinet, for now, says PM

PETALING JAYA: Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin remains in the Cabinet for now, says Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
In a press conference in Tokyo, Japan, Ismail noted that various people had given their views on Zuraida’s exit from Bersatu, including her former party’s president, Muhyiddin Yassin, and Cabinet colleagues.
“But the final decision is mine to make. Since it’s still too early to decide, because I have yet to meet her, I won’t comment any further.
“Wait for me to return (to Malaysia), call her up for a meeting, and discuss the matter with her. Then I will decide,” he said, adding that she would still attend Cabinet meetings for now.
The Bera MP, who is on a working trip in Japan, also pointed out that Zuraida had yet to resign as plantation industries and commodities minister and that he did not sack her, which was why she could remain in the Cabinet.
He added that it was not certain yet if he would ask her to step down from her post, reiterating he would only make a decision after meeting Zuraida.
“So, until then, we continue as usual.”
Yesterday, Zuraida announced she was quitting Bersatu to join the newly formed Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), adding that she would meet Ismail soon to discuss her resignation from the Cabinet.
Muhyiddin said he knew Zuraida was involved in PBM, adding that the former PKR vice-president had been issued a show-cause letter over the matter.
The former prime minister also said he would submit the name of a Bersatu candidate for Zuraida’s ministerial post to the prime minister.
However, Khairuddin Aman Razali, whom Zuraida replaced as plantation industries and commodities minister, said the Ampang MP should stay on in the Cabinet post until Parliament was dissolved.

ReplyDeleteA Minister has quit a coalition party, and joined a party that is not a member of the coalition, though it claims to be ""BN friendly" .
I have never heard of such an arrangement before.
