PM: EO to be tabled in Sept, Cabinet to iron out details on Wednesday
PRIME Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin announced that the Cabinet would deliberate on tabling a motion to debate the Emergency and revoke its ordinances (EO) in a meeting on Wednesday Aug 4.
However, he said that the motion would only be tabled at Parliamentary sitting scheduled next month.
“We were unable to table the motion as per the Cabinet’s advise to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong during the last sitting.
Statement from Prime Minister’s Office
“But with the Emergency ended two days ago, the issue doesn’t arise again. Therefore, the Cabinet hopes that we can resolve the matter tomorrow harmoniously and according to the rule of law,” the Pagoh MP said, in a statement.
Earlier this year, Mahiaddin received consent from the Agong to proclaim an Emergency to contain COVID-19, which ended two days ago.
Last week, Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan shocked MPs by saying that the Emergency and its ordinances (EO) had been revoked on July 21 itself, leading to questions whether the matter received Istana Negara’s consent.
Despite Takiyuddin’s attempt to remain coy on the matter, Istana Negara swiftly rebuked the former for attempting to mislead Dewan Rakyat, adding the monarch did not give royal assent to the revocation.
The source added: “The so-called constitutional crisis is soon to be resolved. The prime minister will deliberate further with the Cabinet after his audience at Istana Negara.” – Aug 3, 2021.
