“I am prepared to be defeated in the party election where I have given over 55 years of my life in pursuit of the ‘Malaysian dream’,” he said at an event last night.

Lim reiterated that DAP does not advocate any “de-Chinese, de-Malay, de-Indian, de-Kadazan or de-Iban policy”, but acknowledges that they are all Malaysians despite having different identities.
He said Malaysians of Chinese descent do not belong to the Chinese diaspora “as they are part of the Malaysian diaspora comprising not only the Chinese but also Malays, Indians, Kadazans and Ibans”.
“I want the Malaysian Chinese, like other Malaysians regardless of their race, religion, language, culture or region, to be treated as first-class Malaysian citizens. This is the only way to realise the Malaysian dream,” he said.
He also said it is possible to “rekindle, reinspire and remotivate hope and inspiration for reform” in the 15th general election.
“We can. We have done it before. The darkest hour is just before dawn. All we need is conviction, stamina, commitment and perseverance to pursue the Malaysian dream.”
On the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) issue, Lim said Pakatan Harapan would recognise UEC certificates to enter public institutions of higher learning provided that applicants have a credit in Bahasa Melayu at the SPM level.

He said the UEC would be equivalent to the existing general qualification for entry into the institutions.
The UEC is a standardised test for Chinese independent high school students in the country.
