Malaysiakini - How 'soft' does Rais Yatim want DAP to be? by Commander (rtd) S Thayaparan
some images below were of my selection (not Cmder Thayaparan's, wakakaka)
Pakatan Harapan has been scrambling to pin the blame on someone, anyone, for the recent defeat in Semenyih. The issue of identity politics has dominated the discourse, but nobody wants to admit that Harapan and BN ran more or less the same game. Umno/PAS, unshackled by coalition partners, played the race card more effectively.
The DAP, of course, has become the whipping boy, for Harapan’s failure in Semenyih.
once MCA was UMNO's whipping boy today DAP is PRIBUMI's whipping boy |
The Macai Brothers wakakaka |
If the Malays are spooked, it is because of the DAP. Umno and PAS went out of their way to play the same kind of game current Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad played all those years ago, when he was prime minister the first time around.
As someone who has had no problem chronicling the failures of the DAP, I am disgusted by the way Bersatu Pribumi is attempting to paint the failure in Semenyih as partly that of the DAP. Think about what Bersatu Pribumi leader Rais Yatim said – Rais said Malays in Semenyih could not accept "careless actions" or DAP's presence in Malay villages.
The DAP has bent over backwards to court the Malay vote. The DAP has bent over backwards most times sacrificing their secular principles to appease Malay sentiment. The only time they discover their cojones is when they receive pushback from their supporters.

Brotherhood of the 'Boe-Hood' |
If anything, a case can be made that the DAP has done everything in their power to ingratiate themselves with the Malay community at the expense of their non-Malay base.
new chow-kow in town |
It is funny; in my last article I discussed how the DAP was slowly morphing into the MCA and were enabling the bumiputera agenda of the current prime minister. Evidently it is not enough for the DAP to be like the MCA, they need to sublimate their behaviour even further to calm the sensitivities of the Umno/PAS/Bersatu base.
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang talks about a post-Semenyih formula, but what does this mean? As far as I can see, the DAP was doing its utmost best not to step on anyone’s toes in Semenyih. The fact is Umno and PAS were using national issues, which had little relevance in a place like Semenyih, to rattle the race and religion crowd.
Could Harapan have played a better game? No doubt about it. The fact that the Harapan regime was caught squabbling over an issue like a hospital for Semenyih demonstrates the kind of ineptness that permeates the corridors of power in the Harapan-led Putrajaya.

With all the DAP has done for the Malays, Rais has the audacity to claim that the Malays in Semenyih cannot accept the “careless” actions or DAP's presence in the villages.
HasBersatu Pribumi and any other Malay power structures in Harapan come out and laid waste to the propaganda of Umno and PAS using every weapon in their arsenal? Have they brought legal challenges against Umno and PAS for lying about the government? Have they used the state security apparatus – like they have in other cases – to prosecute the lies and propaganda-makers of the Umno/PAS union?
No, they have not. What they have done is bend over backwards and claiming to want to carry out the bumiputera agenda without apology.
If anything, the DAP has been getting blowback from some supporters because they have had to sublimate their secular principles and egalitarian agenda so as not to spook the Malays. Every time a Malay power broker says something which is against the spirit of reform that Harapan promised, the DAP has to cautiously reply in case they are told their stance is "careless".
Look at the whole debacle over the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (Icerd). The DAP was getting battered by non-Malays for not doing anything, and by the Malay far right for just being the DAP.
So to non-Malays the DAP is castrating itself, while bending over backwards to prop up the current prime minister, but to the far right and the Umno/PAS base, the DAP is attempting to subvert Malay hegemony.

exercise for DAP when Pribumi is around |
Harapan supporters always make this mistake. They say that if Umno and PAS are raising issues about race and religion, Harapan has to move away from this kind of politics. The problem - it is not that Harapan should move away from this kind of politics, but rather that Harapan is more or less sending the same message as that of Umno and PAS.
hmmm, we Melayu should now be more racist wirth our Ketuanan Melayu Agenda without being apologetic |
Apparently we have to be 'pragmatic' if we want this new regime to survive. You want to know what 'pragmatic' really means? It means the DAP having to soften its image amongst the Malays. Rais thinks the Malays are so easily distracted, that instead of focusing on corruption, they are focusing on how the DAP, a supposed Chinese-based political party, is attempting to subvert Malay power.
What is worrying is that by claiming the DAP has to soften its image, what Rais is doing is legitimising the propaganda of the Malay far right. What he is doing is essentially reinforcing the narrative that non-Malay power brokers have to always appear subservient to Malay power brokers.
In 2017, I wrote an article about how Umno should ban all non-Malay political parties.
Here is the relevant bit – “When you consider the racist rhetoric coming out of Umno power brokers, government ministers and government institutions, the religious bigotry from the same, Umno should just drop this charade of democracy and ban all non-Malay/Muslim political parties. This way, the Malay community, or least that section of the Umno voting base, will not have to be encumbered by the existential threat the non-Malays supposedly pose to their bangsa and agama.”
So ifBersatu Pribumi, or any other Malay power structure, does not want equal partners, because it supposedly scares the base, why not just dump this whole charade of democracy.

So if
Rais Yatim should contest Rantau and go Mano a Mano against the UMNO Acting President.
ReplyDeleteMake it Bersatu vs PUMMO.
PKR bagi jalan. DAP can stay out of campaigning.
A race-based party merges with a religion-based party is a perfect recipe for disaster.
ReplyDeleteRais yatim is a pushovered racist in the same class like nazri!
ReplyDeleteCan WHAT he had said representing the views of Bersatu?
Or just his personal fart of using the same old 3R to gain a foothold for a chance at Rantau byelection!
Nazri changes course the moment the Semenyik by-election was won by bn/pas. He is fighting for a continuation of his political relevancy since mamak has out rightly rejected him many times over.
His view is in contradictory with that of hassan, the bn chairman!
Thus, who holds more water?
Wakakakakaka…
"The fact is Umno and PAS were using national issues, which had little relevance in a place like Semenyih, to rattle the race and religion crowd."
National issues!!!???
Wa lau-eh! Such an insightful analysis (fart, more likely!).
The Semenyik zombies/ketuanan freaks/blur-sotongs r a cut-above class that COULD care more about national issues than their sacrosanct 3Rs!
Mfer, how do u jive this statement of yrs:
"The DAP has bent over backwards most times sacrificing their secular principles to appease Malay sentiment."
vis-a-vis the next one of yrs:
"So to non-Malays the DAP is castrating itself, while bending over backwards to prop up the current prime minister, but to the far right and the Umno/PAS base, the DAP is attempting to subvert Malay hegemony."
Bending over backwards to please & yet still been labelled as attempting to subvert Malay hegemony.
Or is it just common sense NOT to play into the bolihland reality that the Malay power structures are using the DAP as a scapegoat for their ineffective strategies to court the Malay votes?
Perhaps, it's best that DAP just disappear from bumi bolihland lah - just to placate the ketuanan freaks' constant fear of irrational DAP dark shadowing.
Oooop… along the way u lose a couple of punching bags (DAP, lim father& son, tp etc). But compensated by yr kpi target fulfilling!
DAP is basically a Chinese party with Indian participation.
ReplyDeleteIts political stance is an anathema to the majority of Malays.
They will Not vote for a coalition which is perceived as dominated by DAP.
Many have said that Mahathir and Pribumi are now castrated by DAP.
So many of the PH policies are either unfriendly or heedless or uncaring of Malay concerns.
UMNO is basically a Malay party with zero participation of other races.
DeletePAS is basically a Muslim party which has zero participation of kafirs.
At the very least DAP tries and invites participation from all races and religion.
PRIBUMI?
DeleteBersatu is UMNO 3.0. Same same.
DeleteAnd some say their leader is actually Indian....heh heh.
PRIBUMI ?
DeleteCastrated by DAP, whom they are beholden to.
& yet the flyboy wannabe BS-ter has constantly implied that DAP has sold his soul to mamak!
DeleteMake up yr bloody mind lah.
Either the sifu is or the student is right on the money.
BTW, such occurrence IS mutually exclusive.
Can the BS-ter explains to yr zombies/ketusnan freaks/blur-sotongs choirboys me? Wakakakakaka…
i think rais has a point if one read lks n lge statement/comment from time to time, especially if u r a malay.
ReplyDeletei no doubt lge is a political idiot that only know bragging, however i also quite puzzle y lks can be so naive when come to malay psyche.
U just want to please yr melayu master mah!
DeleteU r just the same as the flyboy wannabe BS-ter.
One second, complaint no ends about DAP kowtowing to mamak & gangs.
The next second, complaint DAP too harsh to the tongkat race!
I venture to guess that u r reading the melayu psyche correctly. So much so that u just wag yr tails to defend yr master every time when something bad is levelling on this bunch of zombies/ketusnan freaks/blur-sotongs!
Better still buat suci dan masuk melayu lah.
Just like that reduan tee. Then u can proudly do openly what he is doing as a melayu (palsu).
I prefer to look at the political goings on from a geopolitical angle.
ReplyDeleteNajib was disposed because he became too friendly to China saying that China is a 'true friend'. The choice of words is interesting.
It is in the Anglo cousins' interest to secure the Malacca Straits as a choke hold against China. The numerous American military bases surrounding China is self evident.
There was massive fundings by the west,as exposed by Tony Cartalucci...citing sources. Hence the massive negative image of Najib that even non Malays, especially the Chinese bought fully into it.
This Ketuanan Malay and Bumiputra labels were actually started by no other than Dr.M himself...if I am not wrong. We are now into the second round, guided by some forces behind. One need to remember that M was forced to resign in '03 by some financial forces. I cannot imagine these forces were Malaysians.
Breaking down those 2 words on its own is very telling upon the mindset of the Malays. Ketuanan meaning the Masters, the Lords or superior race if you like - meaning non Malays must be servants/slaves. And Bumiputra can be broken down to Prince of the earth. They are saying they lord over you. Such an idea is deliberately planted into the Malay mind so as to enable the Anglo Cousins to 'stroke' the Malays to be forever lording over the non Malays and so the Malacca Straits will remain safe in their hands.
It is geopolitical. Of course the Malays will fall and defend such labels. If such labels were put out in the west, that country's people will be labelled as Nazis.
Some time ago, the idea of Greater Malay Archipelago was floated. It seemed to have died down a bit but scratch the surface and...Such an idea is very attractive to the Malays and this carrot can be used repeatedly to control the local Chinese as well as to contain China.
ravan, you're correct from a geo-political point of view but domestically we must also bear in mind Mahathir's very vengeanceful mentality towards anyone who threatens his progenies, for example:
Delete(a) Anwar who refused to loan his (M) son RM2 billion to sustain his shipping line during the Asian meltdown (but only RM1 Billion)
(b) AAB vicariously for his s-i-l's sin for threatening Mukhriz business (sorry, I can't go into details here), and
(c) Najib for not looking after Mukhriz's political future by getting M Junior into an UMNO's VP position
No one fCks aroudn with his sons
Najib became too friendly to China because China companies undertaking ECRL were being used as saviour for 1MDB exposure, via grossly inflated project cists.
DeleteSaying that China is a 'true friend' he meant Friend of Najib. A friend in Need is a Friend indeed.
Greater Malay Archipelago? Be careful what you wish for.
DeleteSouthern Thailand and Southern Philippines full of terrorists.
Indonesia? They want nothing more than to swallow Malaysia but spit out the non-Muslims. Malaysia will be relegated to being one of the provinces of Indonesia, where Javanese reigns supreme, no Malay supremacy I assure you. Perlembagaan Malaysia? Throw it away. Bumiputra special status? Forget it. Javanese for ever.
At the end of the day, as they say, all politics is local.
Don't forget the ultimate demise of that useless blue bloods too if the indo really takes over as in the nusantara agenda!
DeletePerhaps that's the ONLY good thing coming out of this fart idea.
"China companies undertaking ECRL were being used as saviour for 1MDB exposure"... Is there evidence or proof of this?
ReplyDeletePerhaps it would be wiser to await the court cases to finalize before making such conclusion.
what do you mean? Don't you know that under "New" Malaysia (with Old PM, wakakaka) a person is considered to be guilty as accused, until he or she can prove he/she is innocent. Eff teh court, justice and democracy. On that score, Najib shall be hung as guilty (if only no one is looking) wakakaka. If subsequently he is found innocent, we can always say sorry, wakakaka again
DeleteBy the same standard, you already declared Mahathir guilty of Everything.
Delete"Najib was disposed because he became too friendly to China "
Deleteby the same standard, is there any evidence or proof of this ?
The up-to-date ACTUAL project cost of ECRL: Our side has apparently paid 39% of the supposed total cost already for just 13% work done.
DeleteIf the total project estimate (current w/o variations) is RM55bn as the benchmark, 39% = RM21.45bn. That figure is probably not retrievable!
Whether some of the sums were "diverted" or "misused" is up for conjecture for now.
But somehow a huge portion of money had disappeared despite little work been completed.
Hello there, the progressive payment accrued amount DOESN'T jive with normal contractual project work done!
Jibby is too friendly to China bcoz there is NO other countries interested to work with him.
DeleteChina is willing to financially helping to fill some of jibby's shortfalls bcoz the East coast of peninsula M'sia IS strategically important to the military supports of those islets under the Nine Dashed lines!
Read latest article: https://journal-neo.org/2019/03/07/thai-elections-us-seeks-regime-change-vs-china/
DeleteThat's not evidence. Just a left-wing writer's outburst.
DeleteThat writer prefers the military junta-run sham democracy...I don't defend the Thaksin clan, they have done a lot wrong, but there is no way I would support the military junta. .of course the Western countries are critical of the current Thai government, but there is Zero evidence of any actual work on regime change.
"But somehow a huge portion of money had disappeared despite little work been completed. "
DeleteIpso facto... The money paid was diverted for other purposes...not for ECRL project construction costs.
The Bossku ball-carriers just can't see that.
"If the total project estimate (current w/o variations) is RM55bn as the benchmark, 39% = RM21.45bn. That figure is probably not retrievable!
Delete.......
But somehow a huge portion of money had disappeared despite little work been completed. "
The world-wide standard , Malaysia, China, USA, Japan, UK, Australia, wherever, for settlements in the construction industry is called "progressive payments".
The contractor gets paid in stages for work that has been properly completed. There is usually an up-front down-payment as well to ensure both sides commitment, but it is usually not a huge percentage.
Anybody who has ever bought a house or other building which is not yet build , or still under construction will know what I am talking about.
It is a logical system because it ensures
a) The contractor is one that has the financial background and capability to get the job done.
b) The contractor may disappear half-cooked or do a substandard job, if you instead pay him upfront for work that has NOT yet been completed.
Trying to recover money already paid to a contractor for unsatisfactory work is a messy and often unsuccessful effort.
In the case of the ECRL, the Najib government ignored this internationally accepted Progress Payment model.
Either the Najib government was amazingly inept or something VERY fishy was going on with the payment arrangements.
A known racist giving words of advice.
