Mauritanian troops have conducted a coup d’etat while its president, Ould Taya, was away in Saudi Arabia attending the state funeral of the late King Faud. The soldiers seized the state media. The situation is still fluid.
BTW, Mauritania is on the west coast of Africa, just north of Senegal.
