Rudyard Kipling couldn't stop the twain coming together?

Do you recall last year, following the poisonous Selangor MB debacle, a foul festering fetid leftover of some rancid Satay, Dr Mahathir supported Azmin Ali as the new MB, saying he hoped there won't be a vote of no confidence taken against Azmin when the State Assembly convened in November. For more, see TMI's Dr Mahathir supports Azmin as Selangor menteri besar.

The Star Online in fact reported Dr Mahathir expressing his hope that the state assembly would give Azmin Ali its full support. I hope Azmin did the right thing, and remembered to thank Uncle, wakakaka.

Oh, I assume you all are aware that Dr Mahathir is staunchly UMNO, wakakaka as if we don't (and still wielding much influence and power in that party), while Azmin Ali is from Pakatan, though I am sure you recall the latter was also from UMNO. Wakakaka.

So who the hell said 'and never the twain shall meet'? Wakakaka.

Do you also recall Dr Mahathir advising Azmin Ali as the new Selangor MB to stand on his own, and not be influenced by others if he wanted to be a good leader. I hope Azmin did the right thing, and remembered to thank Uncle, wakakaka.

Well, let's f* whoever said 'and never the twain shall meet'. Wakakaka.

Do you know that Pak Kadir Jasin has written an article in his blog about Azmin (and picked up by TMI in its Azmin as opposition leader will draw young crowd, says veteran newsman)?

In the article he said if Pakatan appoints Azmin Ali as its new coalition leader to replace Anwar Ibrahim, it will give Pakatan a youthful edge which will stimulate the younger generation to give its support to the coalition - yes you did read me right, the Pakatan coalition, not the BN coalition! Wakakaka.

Then, according to Pak Kadir, Pakatan will pose a threat to the ruling BN because Malaysian youths will give their sympathy and protest votes to Pakatan in the next general election.

Huh? As if they (the youths) haven't already?

So why is Pak Kadir advising Pakatan to attract the votes of Malaysian youths when that's already achieved since 2008? Indeed, why is Pak Kadir even advising Pakatan, full stop?!

Oh, I assume you all are aware that Pak Kadir Jasin is the former group editor-in-chief of Umno-linked New Straits Times, a quite influential player in UMNO politics, a very close confidante of Dr Mahathir, reputed at times to be Dr Mahathir's 'other' public voice, and currently a harsh critic of PM Najib, most certainly like Dr Mahathir, wakakaka.

Yes, why is Pak Kadir, an über UMNO voice, advising Pakatan to make Azmin Ali the new leader of the coalition so as to enhance the attraction of Pakatan to young voters in order to give UMNO a jolly good bashing ........ if we can remember that Pak Kadir is UMNO true and blue while Azmin Ali is PKR - but I wonder whether I ought to remind you all that the latter was from UMNO. Wakakaka.

Blast that bloody Pom and his bullshit 'and never the twain shall meet', wakakaka.

Dearie dearie me, Rudyard you've been a bloody loser with your Ballad of East and West:

I say old chap, bad show your ballad

Oh, East is East and West is West, and never the twain shall meet,
Till Earth and Sky stand presently at God's great Judgment Seat;
But there is neither East nor West, Border, nor Breed, nor Birth,
When two strong men stand face to face, though they come from the ends of the earth!

But wait wait, let's hear what else über UMNO Pak Kadir has said in his high praise of Azmin Ali as the man to lead Pakatan to topple Najib and BN.

Pak Kadir reminded us of how Dr Mahathir had recently told poor Ah Jib Gor to resign for pissed-poor performance, and mentioned UMNO' current malaise and the required treatment.

Oh Ah Jib Gor, see what you have brought upon yourself for not supporting someone vying for a VP position in UMNO! Wakakaka.

Ah Jib Gor, you could be joining Sweetie (in her current political fate)

wakakaka

Yes sir, to summarize the essential points of Pak Kadir's article at this stage, Azmin is No 1, while Ah Jib Gor is No 10, wakakaka.

TMI reported on Pak Jasin:
"The reality is that Umno is old and it needs a radical anti-aging treatment. Without it, Umno will die of old age," he wrote.

He added that even among the party's top brass, they were aware of the actual situation but did not dare opt for the right treatment.

He said going by analysis done, there was every possibility that Umno could lose its hold on the 88 seats it secured in the 13th general election, as more youths register to vote in the next election.

Quote
 - as more youths register to vote in the next election - unquote. Aha, those Azmin supporters!

"There is concern that Umno's seats could reduce to 70 or even 60 if the current situation is allowed to persist," he said.

Adding that the ruling coalition could not depend on Chinese and Indian votes, he said this meant that BN's strengthening must begin with Umno.

"BN cannot gain strength against attacks by PR and at the same time transform itself to attract the younger generation if it does not free itself from its feudal and dynasty-type hierarchy," Kadir wrote.

Quote -
transform itself to attract the younger generation - unquote. Aha again, those Azmin supporters!

Saying that Umno needed “major surgery” and treatment for its cancerous parts, Kadir added: “Or Umno can depend on bomohs, fortune tellers and witchcraft who will echo what Umno bigwigs want people to hear rather than what they should hear.”

Quote -
Umno needed “major surgery” - unquote. Aha, aha, aha! Wakakaka.

By the by, do you know that the Mahathir family brought up dear lil' cute Azmin Ali? And that it was Dr Mahathir who told his-then deputy Anwar to give Azmin a job?

a bit blur, but the one on the left is a young Dr M

guess who's the other person? wakakaka

Looks like there may be another Mahathir-offer on line for leng chai, but this time without intermediary Anwar, wakakaka.

Could it be possible there will be a new 'doctor' wakakaka to treat a cancerous UMNO. Wakakaka again.

follow me, I'll introduce you to my deputy

wakakaka

Rudyard, my dear old chap, didn't you realize even in your time that the world is round, and while East may be East and West may be West, the twain will eventually meet.

Wakakaka. Don't you just love politics, the art of the 'possible'?

wishing you all the best, my dear boy

who knows, one day you may be the PM

wakakaka

But don't we all know why, in the eyes of Dr Mahathir, KJ can never ever be the young 'doctor' to treat UMNO, wakakaka.

Who after Anwar?

The name of the person who is expected most likely to step into Manmanlai's shoes is anybody's guess, though the big money is on the Dökkálfar Dwarf, wakakaka.

He is both accidentally and strategically placed gnam gnam because (i) of PKR benefiting from the likely deadlock between PAS and DAP, as has been the case in Selangor DUN, and (ii) the Dwarf has long harboured such ambitions while in Anwar's shadow for the last 15 years or so, and has been working his way slowly up the ladder of his aspirations.

Hmmm, the moment seems to have arrived for the Dwarf because like the Norse mythical being named Billingr he may also become a Giant.

In Norse myth, Billingr is the name of a dwarf (wakakaka) in the Vǫluspá and also that of a giant in the Hávamál, both being sections of the Poetic Edda, the collection of Norse myths.

Norse Valkyries

Indeed, in Selangor, because of PAS and DAP's mutual distrust (gajah sama gajah berjuang), PKR the minor party, the f* pelanduk doesn't get trampled to smithereens but instead the lion's share of the DUN positions which comes along with becoming the ruling coalition.

Apart from PKR re-securing the MB post for Azmin, with the blessing of HRH, it also grabs a disproportionate number of exco positions.

DAP Selangor under Tony Pua was seen pathetically in a beggar's position of "begging" for an additionally Deputy Speaker post, a shameful attempt at scrapping the bottom of the barrel.

WTF do you want Oliver?

Azmin matey ... I mean .... Sir, may I have another bowl, just a wee 'deputy' one?

WTF use is that of a Deputy Speaker post, other than a jolly position for a DAP member, when DAP should have demanded at least an exco job to serve the Selangor rakyat.

But DAP was caught nicely in a 'fix' as Azmin Ali knows that the DAP won't support PAS while its Chinese-Indian-ness doesn't allow HRH to support DAP for the MB or more exco positions.

Incidentally the phrase 'caught nicely in a fix' means Azmin got Tony Pua nicely by his Chicken Little balls, and poor Tony couldn't even squeal nor yelp about the pain. Thus beggar bowl in hand, he begged for an additional Deputy Speaker post as a 'reward' for supposedly 'supporting PKR' for the MB post in the recent state near-constitutional crisis.

How the f* would that Deputy Speaker post benefit the Selangor rakyat?

Why the f* would Azmin entertain his request when DAP's support of PKR for the MB post was personal-to-holder specific, namely for Dr Wan Azizah and not Azmin Ali?

Thus it's hardly surprising Azmin has been lukewarm towards Tony Pua and DAP.

I have no doubt that Azmin sees himself now as nicely positioned to step into Anwar's shoes as the best compromised candidate for Anwar's role as Pakatan's new leader.

And did you read of his cool response towards Anwar's daughter, Nurul Nuha Anwar, as a PKR candidate for the coming Permatang Pauh by-election? See Malaysiakini's Azmin coy when asked if he'll be top man.

Azmin tap-danced nicely away from any positive indication for Nurul Nuha, which in itself is an indication he does not favour any of Anwar's family members (Dr Wan or daughters) playing too big a role in PKR politics. He wants to be No 1 in PKR, and out of Anwar's shadow forevermore
.

But will The Dwarf become The Giant like Billingr?

PAS is jealous of him and PKR in Selangor, undoubtedly blaming DAP for bringing about the PAS-DAP stalemate which allows Azmin and the junior PKR (junior by number of ADUN) to gobble up the lion's share of the DUN's executive positions.

Apart from that, I suspect Pak Haji Hadi Awang also fantasizes being the new Pakatan leader. But he is currently facing his own intra-party problems, and may be to tied up with his own political survival. And who the f* in DAP or PKR would tolerate, let alone welcome his leadership in Pakatan?

As for DAP, its Selangor branch has been stung kau kau by both Khalid Ibrahim and Azmin in the sharing bullshit that represents the executive positions in the Selangor DUN, but only because the DAP has put itself in the role of a willing captive due to its distrust of PAS.

To know how Khalid Ibrahim played Tony Pua out, see my post
Selangor saga shows PKR's ketuanan mentality?

Sweetie was a better Selangor DAP chief

Mind, I don't blame the DAP for not trusting PAS because of the Islamic Party's hudud agenda and its ulama faction who's less than friendly to DAP. But PKR is NOT a good and trustworthy ally but a very avaricious one when it comes to seats allocation, wakakaka - see my post PKR destroying Pakatan in Sarawak.

If not for PAS' insistence on implementing hudud and Pak Haji Hadi Awang's dislike of DAP, PAS would have made a better and far more trustworthy ally than PKR.

Recently, it has been remarked that DAP has voiced its interests in obtaining the Pakatan leadership position for Lim Kit Siang, but mentioning its readiness to defer to ONLY Dr Wan Azizah (and silent on anyone else).

It's the first time the DAP has shown temerity in wanting the Pakatan No 1 post. Thus it's possible it may not support Azmin Ali.

Coincidentally, KJ John wrote in Malaysiakini Can a Chinese Malaysian lead again?

His 'again' in his question about the Chinese leadership in Malaysia bears in mind Ling Liong Sik's brief political split second (wakakaka) as Chair of the BN when UMNO underwent its traumatic split up between Dr M and Ku Li, wakakaka again.

Hmmm, I wonder whether Ling had then fantasized about conducting a coup d'etat, wakakaka. Alamak, apa lagi Cina mahu, wakakaka!

But nonetheless the MCA should be proud of and should go ahead and wank itself silly (wakakaka) over its former President's top political billing, albeit for a short while.

Incidentally I suspect though can't quite recall accurately that Tan Siew Sin was at one time acting PM, thus possibly the only Chinese ever allowed that privilege, brief as it was, and undeniably the only Chinese ever trusted, respected and liked by UMNO leaders during Tun Razak's time.

Mind, if he ever was, at least he didn't go around making mewing noises like "Kita orang Melayu" (wakakaka) though being a true Baba in Malacca he spoke Melayu like a Malay and virtually lived life comfortably amidst Malay culture.

Okay, back to KJ John who posed his question:

My question to the DAP leadership, since they have the most significant political support of the Chinese Malaysians: will you provide a quality of leadership which demonstrates unquestionable political will, tactical skill, and a transformational strategy to move Malaysia beyond the race-based politics of the past?

And neither is PAS alone the bad boy of Pakatan; the bad boys and girls are PAS or PKR members who were cultured by "the politics of race during their time of love affair with Umno", and they have thus lost their capacity to make distinctions between right and wrong, and truth or falsity.

Wakakaka!

All good leadership must cut through this 'political noise' and look at issues from a strategic perspective, as the times and seasons require even better models of leadership quality.

Let us once and for all forget the race-based model of the Hasan Alis and the Ibrahim Alis - they are part and parcel of a political rhetoric of the past. Let us bury them and May 13 in the past. [...]

Let us, therefore, not focus on other Malaysians of different origins and ethnicities anymore; but let us instead focus on the next-generation leaders and their quality of leadership.

We face a very different world now - one in which people like the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil) kill and demonstrate evil of every unthinkable kind.

We must, and can only move forward as a country, if we (the majority) remain moderate and address every issue regarding extremities with the same vigour of rejection and hatred as for all evil wrongdoings. [...]

So, let us all please take care with our middle, moderate Malaysian spaces. As National Unity Minister Joseph Kurup said: "Please handle such spaces with care." May God still bless Malaysia.

In other words, KJ John has virtually told us, vis-a-vis the 'No 1 political leadership', to f* PAS and PKR off, and f* race also, a la his "... cut through this 'political noise' and look at issues from a strategic perspective, as the times and seasons require even better models of leadership quality."

Thus a DAP Chinese, Indian, Thai, Iban, Kadazan, etc or even Malay (wakakaka) should not be afraid of laying claim to being a future PM.

dei, Ah Chong and I can be PM oso lah

Well said KJ.

Anwar Ibrahim - end of the political road?

Undeniably I have been against Anwar Ibrahim though to my own surprise I have defended him on a couple of occasions, wakakaka - see see my 2010 post Defending Anwar Ibrahim - wakakaka ...

... and a 2011 post Replying to Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad's reply though in this, the 2nd one, only to a certain extent while at the same time attacking Azmin Ali, wakakaka, as follows (extract):

PKR under Azmin Ali (and let's not mince words here, he IS in charge of your party) has shown an amazing talent and consistent inclination to offend the very people that PKR/PR should in fact be seeking support from. While I have criticised Anwar I recognize some good he has and can continue to do for PR, to make it a cohesive alternative party to the BN for Malaysians to choose as their government, but I fear Azmin Ali and his obsessive need to control, dominate and dictate terms all the time to PR and indeed PKR leaders will inevitably pull Anwar down and disintegrate PR.

Believe it or not, I am fairly certain as far as I can recall correctly in my 10 years of blogging, I have never attacked nor condemned him for his two cases of sodomy (because I don't know what's true or not), focussing instead on his reformasi bull.

And I am certainly not going to comment on his current conviction either, nor on whether I believe he is a sodomite or not. Fact is I DON'T KNOW what to believe! And I have to admit I wasn't diligently following his case.

But my stern position against accepting Anwar as a true reformer or a political leader in the mode of Lim Kit Siang, the late Karpal Singh, the late Tan Chee Khoon and the late D.R Seenivasagam has been based on what I have learnt about his 16 years as one very powerful UMNO leader who was conspicuously silent about political reforms while he was luxuriating in power (even leaving aside his less than admirable ministerial policies and conduct), yes, not one single peep from him.

He only started screeching reformasi when he was thrown out of UMNO.

My unfavourable assessment of him has been vindicated by his series of antics when he was on the other side of the fence, in federal opposition - the shameful undemocratic 916, the even more shameful Taiwan frog hunt, the annoying hijacking of Bersih 3, the selfish Kajang Satay, etc, all very lamentable and most unreformasi or very deformasi.

Some have attacked me in their current frustration about Anwar's conviction, that I must be happy about him going to prison as if I am enjoying Xmas, New Year, etc all rolled into one.

I find such petulance childish, immature and in fact sad. I take no joy in anyone's disadvantage, misfortune or tragedy, though politically I will not accept hypocrisy nor bullshit, not even from DAP.

Legally, Anwar Ibrahim will now be imprisoned, until and unless Pakatan wins the next election to form a new Pakatan government and either order his re-trial or seek a pardon from HM for him, or until he finishes his term which with good behaviour reduction, could well be around 3 years' time.

Congratulations Datuk Jackie Chan

"Even if the French people cannot hear my language, they have always heard my heart" - Jerry Lewis

Malaysiakini - Why not Datuk Seri Bruce Lee next?

Sadly, indeed very disappointingly, I read the above, where one of my fave columnists has joined in the protest against Jackie Chan being honoured with a Datukship, though Azly did it in style with a humorous satire.

But why have Malaysians become so anti Jackie Chan in this respect, even if we allow for Tengku Adnan's silly ill-prepared explanation. The latter has been a classic example of an incompetent minister entrusted with explaining to Malaysians why Jackie Chan was awarded a Datukship but who fucked it up badly, unfortunately to Jackie's disadvantage.

Great nations around the world have honoured foreign artistes for entertaining and bringing joy and happiness to their people, or living up to the ideals of their nations, or just being exemplary artistes in their professions.

France is a marvellous example where this great nation has honoured many foreign artistes for decades, including our very own Michelle Yeoh.

Sweetie Michelle was TWICE honoured by France, in April 2007 by then French President Jacques Chirac with the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur, and again in March 2012 by then French President Nicolas Sarkozy with the Officier de la Légion d'honneur. The 2nd decoration was presented at a ceremony in the Elysee Palace.

Those awards have been great honour not only to sweetie Michelle but to Malaysia as well.

One of the world's greatest comedians, Jerry Lewis was similarly honoured a number of times, though long before our own Michelle. The French loved him for his comedy. In 2006 on his 80th birthday, he was again honoured, though this time receiving France's highest civilian award.

Similarly, Great Britain has also honoured foreign artistes with knighthoods for decades. Some of the better known foreigners so honoured have been Bob Hope (USA), Douglas Fairbanks(USA), Placido Domingo (Spain), Spike Mulligan (Ireland), Yehudi Menuhin (Switzerland-USA), Ravi Shanker (India), Steven Spielberg (USA), Ann Murray (Ireland).

Many may not be aware of Jackie Chan's philanthropist efforts where after the Boxing Day tsunami of 2004, he headed a drive to build an entirely new village right from scratch in Aceh for the people who were displaced by the great devastation.

The result of his efforts has been named Friendship Village though unofficially as the Jackie Chan village - unofficially because Indonesia does NOT permit places to be named after foreigner.

I support the Datukship for Jackie because his works as an entertainer/artiste have brought joy and much happiness to many Malaysians, and not because as Ku Nan so stupidly explained, he made a film here.

That has been the same reason France honoured Jerry Lewis as a member of France Legion of Honour.

I feel a bit sad that some Malaysians have been disparaging the award to Jackie Chan just because the BN has recommended him for the Datukship.

It's the same f* ugly poisonous and totally mindless divisive politics of our country that saw Michelle Yeoh being abused by Malaysians when she was awarded a Tan Sri-ship.

Stop the silly mindless and poisonous divisive politics.

Jerry Lewis in top French honour
Actor and comedian Jerry Lewis, left, and French Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres
Jerry Lewis praised the French sense of humour

US comedian Jerry Lewis has celebrated his 80th birthday in Paris receiving France's highest civilian honour in a raucous ceremony.

Mr Lewis winked, stuck out his tongue and made faces during the event to award him the Legion of Honour.

The actor turned up for the usually sober event, in a gilded hall of the Ministry of Culture, wearing slippers.

He then yawned, checked his watch and pretended to fall asleep as the culture minister made a 20-minute speech.

The crowd roared at Lewis' antics, often drowning out minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres' speech in which he called the actor the "French people's favourite clown".

Ministry officials then presented the star of 1963 film The Nutty Professor with a massive cake and sang Happy Birthday.

Speaking afterwards, Lewis apologised for not speaking French, but said that "even if the French people cannot hear my language, they have always heard my heart".

He said he was flattered by his induction into the Legion of Honour, and that he had been "gloriously elevated" by the award.

"The French people are the best in the world," the King of Comedy actor added.

Lewis is one of 37 foreigners to have received the title in the past three years.

Has DAP been biadap to Hadi Awang?

TMI - Hadi says: No one has the right to make me attend Pakatan meet

... this despite Mat Sabu assuring all that Pak Haji will attend today's Pakatan leadership council.

You know, I don't like Pak Haji because I sense he's not only reluctant to work with the Chinese and Indians other than wanting them to vote for PAS, but also because I suspect he is a non-inclusive Malay nationalist like the blokes in ISMA - don't worry about their Islamic credentials as they're first and foremost Malays rather than supranational Muslims.

Incidentally, 'supranational' in above context means transcending established national boundaries or spheres of interest such as racial consciousness of being a Malay as different from Chinese and Indian Malaysians.

Religiously a 'Muslim' is (supposedly) above all such racial boundaries, being a member of an Ummah (Commonwealth of Believers) a la ummat al-Islamiyah.

Additionally, Wikipedia stated: Non-Muslims are viewed as brothers and sisters in terms of all being children of Adam. The Muslim Ummah is responsible for upholding the religion and therefore benefiting the community regardless whether the community is Muslim or non-Muslim.

But alas, in the Islamic World we know that, for example, the Saudis hate the Persians (Iranians), the Kuwaitis hate the Iraqis, & vice versa, etc, and ...

... that during the aftermath of the Boxing Day tsunami some Arab nations ignored or gave very pathetic amount in aid to their Muslim brethren in devastated Indonesia in shameful comparison to Christian individuals like Sandra Bullock and Michael Schumacher.

A Lebanese news media reported that some muftis in the Gulf countries claimed the SE Asian Muslims were divinely punished for their sins, presumably as an indirect excuse for their nations' very shameful apathetic and pathetic response to their supposed Muslim Brethren in Aceh, etc.

By
staggering contrast, after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans those Muslim Arabs gave hundreds and hundreds of millions in American dollars (eg. Kuwait gave US$500 million) to the USA. Can we then assume that was because those Gulf Arabs considered the New Orleaneans were without sin, or Allah swt wasn't angry with those Americans as He was with Indonesian Muslims.

I don't mean to lecture a Muslim as I would be the last person on earth to preach on Islamic teachings, wakakaka, but the point I want to make is that some PAS members have been perceived as suspiciously Malay first, then Muslim after that.

So I am not much surprised by their reluctance to work with DAP, and to a lesser extent, PKR, in the pursuit of good governance, let alone viewing "Non-Muslims ... as brothers and sisters in terms of all being children of Adam" or striving to "... benefiting the community regardless whether the community is Muslim or non-Muslim".

Hearkening back to 2008, Malaysiakini published a news article of PAS Youth defends overtures to Umno, in which PAS was reported to flex its political muscles with regards to its Pakatan ally, namely, PKR (wakakaka). Its Youth chief then, Salahuddin Ayub, said rather condescendingly that, in PAS meeting with UMNO recently (presumably as per Pak Haji Hadi's much loved Malay-Unity forum), PAS wasn't intimidating PKR - wakakaka!

In fact Hadi Awang declared that PAS leaders have just the same rights as, if not more than, PKR to hold discussions with UMNO on issues of mutual interest.

I have to say that Pak Haji was quite correct in saying so. But we have to recognize that assertion as PAS telling PKR: “F* off mate, you don’t have a monopoly on negotiations with UMNO on Malay or Islamic affairs. Who the hell are you to tell us who we may or may not talk to.” Wakakaka.

Pak Haji Hadi then removed his gloves and said assertively: “No one is the sole leader of Pakatan Rakyat. (Its) leadership is collective, and we have mutually agreed that the respective party leaders can seek to influence our friends in BN to join us. Because of this, the issue of why PAS is meeting Umno should not arise.”

Obviously chaffing at the rein because PAS (probably in Pak Haji Hadi's thinking) had graciously taken a back seat for far too long in allowing Anwar Ibrahim to dominate the public limelight, Hadi warned ominously:

“After the victory, the role of PAS people needs to be taken into account. PAS people are not stupid. Do not sideline their contributions after the win.”

And haven't we just witnessed this in the recent MB issue in Selangor where PAS under the direct instruction of Pak Haji Hadi pulled the rug from under Anwar Ibrahim's feet, wakakaka.

He must have waited a long time (since 2008) to relish doing that, wakakaka again. It has been a 6 year grudge.

In my post two weeks ago titled Local council elections? - USTFU I asked:

Now why has Pak Haji gone to the extent of warning about another May 13, a USTFU warning hitherto monopolized by UMNO kakis, on such a small issue, one which could cut down those unrepresentative swill mis-spending public money?

I then explained ... yadda yadda yadda .. on how the local councils BUT ONLY in urban areas like Penang, Ipoh and KL are likely to be dominated by elected Chinese and Indians.

Pak Haji Hadi has of course chosen to ignore that other than these 3 urban areas, all other local councils are likely to be dominated by elected Malay councillors.

Nonetheless, it does seem PAS in the person of Pak Haji Hadi plus cohorts don't want this to come about whether in Penang, Ipoh, and KL or elsewhere, not because it is worried about Chinese-dominated councils not looking after Malay residents but more because (a) it wants to be able to appoint its own people as part of the Pakatan appointment-sharing, (b) it is petrified of UMNO making hay out of Chinese sunshine at PAS’ gloomy expense and (c) in the final analysis it is a parochial Malay party inasmuch as it claims to be an Islamic party.

To reiterate, both Pak Haji and his former party deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa have never been comfy working with Pakatan's non-Muslims non-Malays and preferred instead to work with UMNO, both PAS leaders being ardent proponents of 'Malay-Unity' in the immediate aftermath of March 2008.

Additionally, I suspect Pak Haji, apart from personally disliking Anwar Ibrahim, has been harbouring a deep resentment in his heart when he perceives PKR being given the special treatment by DAP at both national level politics (supporting Anwar Ibrahim as PM-designate) as well as in Selangor (supporting Dr Wan as MB).

No doubt he must have mulled angrily: why should the PM be AI when PAS is the bigger party, or why should the MB in Selangor be from PKR when PAS has 15 seats to PKR's 13?

I personally feel there is some justification for his resentment, that DAP has ganged up with PKR to subtly marginalize PAS from the important appointments.

Anyway, that's the background to Pak Haji Hadi's recalcitrance towards a Pakatan summit today.

But again, to be fair to Pak Haji Hadi, I feel Lim Guan Eng and Anthony Loke have not been very diplomatic towards the proud old man - see The Star Online (wakakaka) Guan Eng: No Hadi, no meeting and Anthony Loke: DAP to stop attending Pakatan Council if Hadi doesn’t show.

Mateys, you can't f**king communicate with a (supposedly) Pakatan ally through the bloody media - that's the f* worst thing to do, more so when relationships are already on the brink or in urgent need of serious salvaging.

Just recall how mad you guys were when PKR used to unilaterally announce seat-sharing allocations to the media, much to your WTF's when you read the news, wakakaka!

And without any doubt, the reality is the current relationship between PAS and DAP has long been shot to shreds, starting with the stupid Kajang rancid satay right up to the hudud bill, when PAS' objection to local council elections had not only been to ensure some of its members get a free ride on the local council meal ticket but I suspect, also in retaliation to DAP's objection to its hudud bill.

While DAP has been right on both counts, namely its unswerving objection to hudud implementation and its promise to restore local council elections, it could do better than to publicly threaten Pak Haji Hadi who is a very very proud old man with a HUGE chip on his shoulder.

Now, for want of face, the disgruntled old man is more UNlikely to attend the meeting.

I have to say that DAP does have this f*-up talent in antagonizing senior Malay personalities like (previously) Tunku Aziz and (now) Pak Haji Hadi Awang.

If the aim is to get rid of PAS for good, then that's fine. But OTOH, if the aim is to seriously conduct a Pakatan leadership meeting so as to hang on to the coalition as a viable opponent to BN, then Lim GE and Anthony Loke have f* up kau kau. It's the sort of attitude that Tunku Aziz has termed 'biadap'.

Keep politocians out of nter-ethnic relationship

I read with much interests RPK's WHEN THINGS WERE RELAXED AND RACIAL IN THE OLD DAYS because such glimpses into our local history, especially from the common folks' viewpoints, have always been far far more interesting than studying, for example, why the Malayan Union failed or how Harold MacMichael the post-world-war British Military Administrator pissed off the Malay sultans, ...

... or who neighbouring Bung Karno or Ngo Dinh Diem or Diosdado Macapagal were, when they were born, what they did for their respective countries, how they lost power, and about non-monarchial oligarchies in South East Asia and the Indian sub-continent ruling their countries for years on end, but which it must be said, indirectly raised the status of women in our world.

Ngo Dinh Diem
His downfall began when he, a Catholic, oppressed the Buddhist majority

Thích Quảng Đức immolating himself in protest against Ngo's oppression of Buddhists

US President John Kennedy said: "No news picture in history has generated so much emotion around the world as that one."

It spelt the beginning of the end for Ngo

Mind you, I had a childhood crush on Macapagal's daughter wakakaka - see my post Lustful fantasies over at my other blog KTemoc Kongsamkok.

my old uni professor told me 'mature' women make better lovers

wakakaka

Aiyah, today's schoolboys are far more lucky as they would be studying neighbouring leaders like yummy Yingluck Sinatrawa (notwithstanding the current military oppression and persecution of her), Aung San Suu Kyi and yes, my sweet lovely Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, wakakaka.

there's something uniquely delicious about women in uniforms

wakakaka

And in years to come, our students will be even more fortunate, wakakaka, looking into the policies of politicians like Dyana Sofya, Nurul Izzah and the humane leadership of activist Marina Mahathir.

There's much truth in RPK's narrative that people in yonder years were less politicized and thus less sensitive despite the ugly practice of racialism. Nowadays we have to be careful of what we say, lest we be accused of racial, age, gender, etc, discrimination - this is especially true in Australia.

I personally feel that while contemporary understanding and demand of equality and rights are good and should therefore be encouraged, I also sense that there's a decided lack of 'responsibilities' in most people, especially those seeking greater or due rights.

'Rights' (or 'authority') and 'responsibilities' are, nay, have to be indivisible twins, essentially the balance of yin and yang for a harmonious society. If one over-stresses 'rights' (usually one's own, wakakaka) without commensurate understanding and exercise of appropriate 'responsibilities', then the yin and yang of those elements won't be nicely balanced into a harmonious Tao.

That's what's happening today, and I'm not talking only about the lamentable yang-ish exertions of rights by Perkasa, ISMA and UMNO bigots as has been outrageously demonstrated just recently but then cowardly denied and sadly condoned by his boss, but also by the other side of politics and community groups.

Yup, all about rights but where was the responsibilities?

A sad example of the 'other side' (mentioned above) was witnessed when immediately after the Selangor Sultan had issued a decree banning non-Muslims in the state from using the Arabic word 'Allah', our dear "intrepid" Father Lawrence Andrew insisted openly that Catholic churches in the state would continue to use that word in their masses.

Now, Father Andrew might well have been legally correct to assert the Catholic Church rights (I'm not a lawyer so I personally don't know), but really was there a need to be so offensively-openly rude to HRH? Hardly surprising that the Malays perceived him as being so arrogantly dismissive of HRH's decree that they were damn pissed off, even unto accusing him of treason.

For more, read the Malay Mail Online's Herald editor in ‘Allah’ storm accused of treason against Selangor Sultan.

Surely there's more than one way of skinning a cat, for the Church in Selangor to continue using the Allah word in their masses, without what the Malays perceived as the equivalent of a F.O to HRH's decree?

So in such a situation, with perhaps legal authority (rights), there should be commensurate socio-cultural responsibility - in other words be sensitive to the feelings of others. And let's NOT now compare ourselves to bigots like Ismail Sabri. We should easily be far far better.

Recalling my Penang kiddie days in Ayer Itam village, reputed at one time to be the largest Chinese village in Malaysia, the various ethnic groups went about their own merry ways without significant racial problems let alone conflicts - of course not counting the occasional odd fisticuffs between individual youths.

In fact, I dare say the Chinese fought more frequently and regularly among themselves, as did the Malays and Indians.

Any scent of trouble brewing, say, between Chinese and Malay youths, would be nipped early in the bud by village elders, and f* politicians.

The Malays in my village followed a man who I will just name in this post as Abang Mat. If the Chinese or Indians in our village encountered any sticky problems involving Malays, they would seek him out to mediate. They respected his standing among the Malays, especially those of the younger set, and relied on him to cool young hot heads. And the village was very successful in that approach.

Abang Mat appeared to be around late 40's but looked far too young to be addressed by the honorific of Pak Cik so we kiddies just called him Abang. He was known to be the leader of a group of tough looking Malay men, all younger than him, in their mid 20's, or even in their late teens.

Mind you, it was not that his group were trouble makers. I had never seen or heard of them ever quarrelling with Chinese or Indians. But as mentioned, Abang Mat commanded mucho respect among the Malays in Ayer Itam and the adjoining suburb of Kampung Baru.

His group looked tough (very muscular) because they were very much into weight lifting. Their hideout or nest where they did their pumping was at a Malay (keramat) shrine next to the Ayer Itam river.

Abang Mat and his cohorts would frequent the same kopitiam I did, where I noted their fave drink was aw-kau (Guinness Stout). Of course they didn't drink openly in the kopitiam front section but discretely behind the shop where the Hainanese owner set up a make-shift pergola under a Malaysian 'cherry' tree.

The local police (mainly Malays) knew what was going on but never intruded - those were the days before the lil' Napoleons in J-organizations started to flex their "divine"-conferred muscles.

We learnt that Abang Mat and his followers believed in aw-kau as a complimentary tonic to their weight lifting exercises. This was not surprising as it was a belief many Chinese and Indians shared and I believe still share - me too, for I somehow feel quite comfy after downing an aw kau following a hard day's work, wakakaka.

No, Abang Mat was NOT the government appointed penghulu who no one knew or cared the f* about. The appointed penghulu just drew his government salary and remained quietly and undoubtedly happily unknown. As far as the Chinese and Indians in Ayer Itam-Kampung Baru were concerned, Abang Mat was THE man in charge of Malay affairs.

Perhaps that's why Ayer Itam and Kampung Baru enjoyed good community relationship for years (at least during the time I grew up) because they wisely kept the pollies out, wakakaka.
