BEIRUT, May 14 — At least 59 children were reportedly killed or injured in Lebanon over the past week despite a ceasefire agreement, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said on Wednesday, warning of deepening physical and psychological harm among young survivors, reported Xinhua.

According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, at least 23 children have been killed and 93 injured since the ceasefire took effect at midnight between April 16 and 17, bringing the total number of child casualties since March 2 to 200 killed and 806 injured.

On Wednesday alone, at least 33 people, including women and children, were killed in an escalation of Israeli strikes across southern and central Lebanon, according to Lebanon’s Public Health Emergency Operations Centre and local media.

“Children are being killed and injured when they should be returning to classrooms, playing with friends, and recovering from months of fear and upheaval,” said UNICEF Regional Director for West Asia and North Africa Edouard Beigbeder.

Beigbeder added that despite the agreement intended to halt violence, children continue to suffer repeated attacks and trauma that could have lifelong consequences.

UNICEF also warned that more than 770,000 children in Lebanon are experiencing heightened psychological distress due to repeated exposure to violence, displacement, and loss.

Symptoms among children and caregivers include fear, anxiety, nightmares, insomnia, and hopelessness. — Bernama

On This Day, May 14, 1948: Israel Declares Independence — And Ben-Gurion Explicitly Calls on Arabs to Stay as Full & Equal Citizens

Listen to David Ben-Gurion himself reading it in real time (audio below):

“We call upon the Arab inhabitants of the State of Israel to preserve the ways of peace and play their part in the development of the State, on the basis of full and equal citizenship and due representation in all its bodies and institutions ... We extend our hand in peace and neighborliness to all the neighboring states and their peoples.”

That was Israel’s very first offer on the day it was reborn.

The response from the Arab world?

    Immediate war of extermination.

Just hours after the British Mandate ended, armies from Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq invaded the newborn Jewish state with tanks, artillery, and planes. Their goal was clear: wipe out the Jews before the state could even stand.

The Jewish population was only 650,000 — roughly the size of modern Luxembourg. Almost no heavy weapons. Yet virtually every able-bodied man and woman mobilized.

Ben-Gurion wrote in his diary that same day:

“People were dancing in the streets ... but the joy was not a part of me. I knew what was to come — war with all of the Arab armies.”

Israel survived the invasion. It absorbed the vast majority of the ~850,000 Jewish refugees brutally expelled from Arab countries. And in the decades that followed, it built a thriving democracy where the Arab population inside Israel has skyrocketed — today more than 2 million Arab Israelis are full citizens with voting rights, elected representatives in the Knesset, judges on the Supreme Court, doctors, and successful business owners.

This is what Israel was from the moment of its birth.

The Arabs who fled and the Arab states that attacked rejected peace and equality. They chose annihilation. Israel chose life anyway.

From the ashes of the Holocaust and an attempted extermination on day one — to a strong, prosperous nation that still extends the same hand of peace.

Never let them bury what Israel actually declared on its first day. Never forget who rejected it and chose war instead.

On This Day, May 14–15, 1974: The Ma’alot Massacre — Palestinian Terrorists Slaughter 22 Israeli Schoolchildren on Independence Day

While Israelis were celebrating their country’s 26th Independence Day, three Palestinian terrorists from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine turned a school trip into a bloodbath.

Disguised in Israeli army uniforms, they infiltrated from Lebanon and began their rampage in the immigrant town of Ma’alot.

    - They burst into the home of Fortuna and Yosef Cohen and murdered the entire family: the parents, their 4-year-old son Eliahu, and left their 5-year-old daughter Miriam wounded. Fortuna was seven months pregnant.

    - They shot a sanitation worker after asking him for directions to the school.

    - Then they stormed the Netiv Meir Elementary School, where 115 teenagers (mostly 15–16 years old from Safed) were sleeping after a field trip.

The terrorists took the children hostage, wired the building with explosives, and demanded the release of 23 imprisoned terrorists.

For over 12 hours the kids huddled on the floor in terror as the terrorists screamed threats and prepared to execute them.

When the elite Sayeret Matkal unit finally stormed the school, the terrorists sprayed the classroom with automatic gunfire and hurled grenades directly at the children.

    22 children were slaughtered.
Another 3 adults died with them.
    68 more were wounded.

On This Day, May 14, 1948: Israel Declares Independence — And the World Immediately Launches the UNRWA Grift

On the very day David Ben-Gurion declared the rebirth of the Jewish state & explicitly called on Arabs to stay as full & equal citizens, the Arab world rejected peace and launched a war of extermination.

Five Arab armies invaded with tanks and planes to wipe out the Jews before the state could even stand.

Roughly 700,000 Arabs fled or were displaced as a direct result of their own war of aggression.

The UN’s response wasn’t resettlement or integration.

They created UNRWA — a supposedly “temporary” agency meant to last just 2–3 years.

76 years later, this grift is still running, now serving more than 5.5 million registered “refugees” — descendants of the original 700,000, many of whom are full citizens of Jordan or live under Palestinian control. No other refugees on earth "inherit" refugee status. Only Palestinians.

There's a simple reason for that. UNRWA is not really a refugee agency.

UNRWA is a permanent victimhood industry — a multi-billion-dollar racket that preserves and multiplies refugee status forever, indoctrinates generations with the lie that their highest purpose is “return” to Israel, and has repeatedly been caught storing rockets and enabling terror infrastructure used to murder Jews.

Meanwhile, Israel absorbed ~850,000 Jewish refugees expelled from Arab countries with far less help — and turned them into productive citizens.

May 14, 1948 wasn’t just the birth of Israel.

It was the day the international community chose to reward Arab rejectionism, freeze a conflict in amber, and create a self-perpetuating grift that keeps Palestinians trapped as eternal victims while their leaders steal aid to build terror tunnels and murder Jews.

    UNRWA doesn’t solve suffering.

It monetizes it. With your tax dollars.
