Saudi Arabia: Normalization with Israel will not happen simply because Washington demands it

Saudi Arabia’s response shows that Trump may no longer be able to dictate the direction of Middle East politics the way he once expected.
At 9:00 AM, Trump called on all Middle Eastern countries to join the Abraham Accords as part of a broader Iran peace deal. But by 5:00 PM, Saudi Arabia had made its position clear: normalization with Israel will not happen simply because Washington demands it. Riyadh said it will only move forward if there is a credible, irreversible path toward an independent Palestinian state.
That is a major shift in tone. It suggests Saudi Arabia is prioritizing its own regional interests, public opinion, and long-term strategy over automatic alignment with the United States. For Trump, this is a diplomatic setback. For the region, it signals that the old power dynamics may be changing.
And this is where Iran’s strategy becomes interesting. While staying relatively quiet, Iran appears to be benefiting from divisions among America’s allies. Whether by design or circumstance, Tehran may be watching the U.S.-led bloc weaken from within. This looks less like random politics and more like a high-level geopolitical chess move.
