Sangeet Kaur Deo, daughter of Karpal Singh, has revived the late DAP leader’s fiery rebuke of Anwar Ibrahim, amid corruption scandals and electoral losses rocking the prime minister.
Taking to Facebook today, she shared a short clip of a 2009 press conference, during which Karpal had slammed Anwar while seeking the latter’s resignation as the leader of the opposition coalition, known as Pakatan Rakyat (PR) at the time.
“Anwar has created enough trouble for the country. Anwar must repent,” Karpal said in the video.
“PKR and DAP have fallen to the temptation and even followed Anwar’s rhetoric in supporting crossovers, and some have not said a word when they ought to have all this while.”
Sangeet, who is a lawyer with Karpal Singh & Co, attached a caption to her post: “Lest we forget”. Karpal died in a road accident in 2014.
The 2009 press conference was held when PR lost the Perak state government after four PR assemblypersons switched sides to BN, which was after one lawmaker initially left BN for PR.

At the time, Karpal had also expressed disappointment with a number of DAP leaders who he accused of supporting the concept of party-hopping.
“I regret that I have not been able to (garner) support, even from my own party leaders (such as) Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng.
“They should support me, not make statements supporting Anwar. I request support, I am the DAP chairperson up to now, until I am displaced,” Karpal had said.
Fondly and reverently known as the “Tiger of Jelutong”, the six-term Jelutong MP was regarded as one of Malaysia’s most fearless lawyers, parliamentarians, and human rights defenders.
Corruption scandal
Anwar was recently implicated in a corruption scandal involving Shamsul Iskandar Akin, who has since resigned from being the prime minister’s political secretary.
On the heels of allegations that Shamsul received money from businessperson Albert Tei, a video published on social media asserted that Anwar gave his blessings for Sabah politicians to be secretly recorded in relation to the mining scandal.

Shamsul has since lodged a police report against Tei, claiming that the accusations in the recordings are a clear and sinister conspiracy to tarnish Anwar’s image.
The Malacca PKR chief and Tei are expected to face five charges each under the MACC Act 2009 for giving and receiving bribes.
Electoral losses
Amid public uproar and calls for Tei’s allegations to be investigated, Pakatan Harapan, chaired by Anwar, suffered a catastrophic defeat in the Sabah state polls last month.
Following the election results, Anwar said his administration respects the wishes of Sabahan voters demanding change and will continue to be consistent in its reform efforts to improve the situation for Sabah.
The 17th Sabah state election saw Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) retain its hold of the land below the wind while peninsula-based parties were almost decimated.
This includes Harapan, which suffered major losses, only managing to win one seat out of the state assembly’s 73.
Its component party, DAP, lost all eight of its contests, including six constituencies that it won with large majorities in the 2020 election.
PKR, of which Anwar is the president, contested 12 seats but only secured one through its Melalap candidate Jamawi Jaafar, who is a former member of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan).
