Zahid’s war on MIC: Burning bridges while UMNO burns

THIS whole fight between UMNO and MIC is a top-down disaster. UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is running UMNO like a bully with a grudge with an unspoken warning to either fall in line or get buried.
By mocking MIC leaders, Zahid is sending a loud message to his own grassroots: “Our oldest allies don’t matter anymore.”
That’s not leadership. That’s sabotage. He’s tearing apart the very engine UMNO needs to survive the 16th general election (GE16).
On the ground, UMNO and MIC aren’t just political partners—they’re family. In the kampungs and estates, local UMNO and MIC leaders have stood shoulder to shoulder for over 50 years.
They have helped each other run welfare programmes, attended each other’s weddings, and worked side by side to get voters out. That’s real unity.
But Zahid? He’s rolling out the red carpet for DAP, the same party he spent decades telling the grassroots to hate. And now he treats MIC like unwanted stepchildren. Don’t call it “rebranding”. Call it what it is—pure hypocrisy.
It’s political arson. Zahid is using BN-friendly parties assemblies to humiliate MIC in public, tearing down the very coalition that gave UMNO its strength for 70 years.
And let’s be real—how can you act like a “Big Brother” when you’re leading the weakest, smallest version of UMNO in history?
Zahid didn’t win Bagan Datuk with a mandate. He scraped through with just 39% of the vote and a razor-thin 348 vote majority. That’s not a victory, it’s a warning. A leader barely hanging on to his own seat has no right to insult loyal partners.
Let’s not forget, MIC and MCA backed Zahid in GE15. Without them, he wouldn’t even be in Parliament today. It’s beyond ironic that a man who couldn’t even get 40% in his own so-called “safe seat” is now bullying the very parties that stood by him.
Zahid only survived because the Opposition vote was split—Pakatan Harapan got 38.78% while Perikatan Nasional got 21.08%. If they had united, Zahid would be out of a job.
He should remember that before burning the bridges that kept UMNO afloat. ‒ DEc 29, 2025
