KUALA LUMPUR: Social media platform TikTok said today allegations from the government that it was blocking pro-Palestinian content were “unfounded”.
“Our community guidelines apply equally to all content on TikTok, and we’re committed to consistently enforcing our policies to protect our community,” a TikTok spokesman said in an email to Reuters.
Yesterday, Malaysia warned of possible action against TikTok and social media firm Meta, saying their platforms had been accused of restricting content supporting Palestinians.
Meta responded by saying there was “no truth” to the claims, adding that it was not deliberately suppressing voices on its Facebook platform.

Both Facebook and Tik Tok are definitely moderating posts that are outright promoting or glorifying Hamas and Palestinian armed violence.
ReplyDeleteFacebook , as a US incorporated company has to abide by US laws that sanction Hamas as a violent terrorist organisation.
Tik Tok is China-owned , but in the current geopolitical climate, it would be very unwise for TikTok to run afoul of US laws.
The Wankees are itching for an excuse to ban or force divestment of ownership of TikTok.
TikTok's mitigation has been to propose to completely insulate it's non-China operations from its China owners, but it's treading on thin ice.
Know nothing fart AGAIN!
ReplyDeleteWhen Yankee is promoting freedom of expression outright then the self-glorified policeman of the world must abide by his own rules.
Allowing wonton spilling of the Israeli lies in Gaza Strip vis-a-vis posts that are outright promoting or glorifying Hamas and Palestinian MUST be allowed!
Otherwise, that f*cked selectivity flies in all the world to see.
BTW, TikTok & 斗音 though share the same major owner, ByteDance, they DON'T operate in the same mode due to geopolitical considerations.
