Ex-Harakah printers fume at PAS' 'lavish lifestyle' while debts remain unpaid

Harakah’s former printers have slammed PAS for living a “lavish lifestyle” while the companies have still not received outstanding payment years after it was reported that the party’s official mouthpiece fell into debt.

NAJ Press Resources (M) Sdn Bhd manager Hussin Jan was seeing red after PAS failed to take up the responsibility to pay Harakah’s debt but the Islamist party and its leadership are allegedly spending large sums of money.

“They use luxury cars, organise muktamar at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC), Shah Alam with a fee that is sure to reach tens of thousands of ringgit. But when it comes to debt, they don’t even bother to solve the issue.

“It has been almost seven years that the outstanding debt has not been paid in full,” he told Malaysiakini today.

In August 2019, Malaysiakini reported the debt saga involving Harakah and two of its printers at that time - Angkatan Edaran Enterprise Sdn Bhd and NAJ Press Resources.

Angkatan Edaran had been declared bankrupt. However, the same management established NAJ Press Resources as a replacement and continued to print Harakah then.

No need to pay bankrupt firm?

Harakah’s debt with Angkatan Edaran has reached millions of ringgit compared to its debt with NAJ Resources at just over RM600,000.

Hussin claimed that PAS and Harakah have refused to settle their debts with Angkatan Edaran on the grounds that the company had already shuttered.

He said the company is bearing the burden of debt with its suppliers because Harakah does not want to pay off its debt.

“In this difficult economic situation, we need immediate financial resources as working capital to continue the business.

“The PAS leaders so-called claim to follow the Quran, hadith, the ijma of scholars as guidance. But they use secular law and ignore Islamic law because they refuse to pay their debts,” he said.

Lawyer Putra Taulan Rasul, who is representing NAJ Resources, said they had filed a claim against PAS, the party’s secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan and Harakah’s publisher Galeri Media Serbanika Sdn Bhd.

“We have also filed an application for judgment directly to the court in a bid to resolve the client’s claim and we will wait for the court’s decision,” he said when contacted.

Malaysiakini has also reached out to PAS and Harakah for their response.
