Ismail denies meeting Muhyiddin in Jakarta

Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said he was having lunch with a veteran journalist at the time when he was alleged to have met Muhyiddin Yassin in Indonesia.

PETALING JAYA: Former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has denied meeting Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin in Jakarta.

Malaysiakini reported that Ismail had ordered his lawyer to take legal action against those who spread the claims of a “Jakarta move”.

According to the report, Ismail said he was in Malaysia on Dec 8 and immigration records would prove that he did not go to Indonesia.

“If you want to slander people, be reasonable. Immigration records would show that I didn’t leave the country. It means I was in the country.

“I have already instructed my lawyer to take legal action,” he said.

Ismail clarified that he was having lunch with a veteran journalist on Dec 8 – at the time when he was alleged to have had a meeting with Muhyiddin in Indonesia.

He also added that he attended the opening ceremony for the Rainforest Challenge International at Bera, Pahang, later that evening.

An unidentified individual shared on social media that Ismail was in Jakarta, and was “planning something”.

The message claimed that the meeting was about a “Jakarta move”, which the unidentified individual claimed was also attended by Muhyiddin.

The allegation was apparently spread due to Ismail’s absence from the Umno Supreme Council meeting on Dec 8.
