KUALA LUMPUR: The one-day 50% discount on police traffic summonses has received an overwhelming response from the public.

It was offered at the Road March 2022 programme, in conjunction with the 215th Police Day celebration at Dataran Merdeka here.

People started lining up as early as 7am, despite the fact that counters only opened at 9am.

Abu Kassim Karim, in his 40s, said that he chose to pay his summons at Dataran Merdeka despite having to join the long queue, as he could save money doing so.

“I joined the queue as early as 7am. In view of the current economic situation, it’s worth the effort,” he said.

A student, Asyraf Mustafa, 18, said the discount given would ease the public’s burden and he was grateful for the reduction.

“Giving this discount has actually given space to road users to settle their summonses which may have been overdue for a long time.”

Police had announced on Facebook and Twitter that a 50% discount would be offered for selected traffic offences during the celebration today.

However, certain offences were not eligible for the discount. These included those involved in accidents, summonses with arrest warrants issued, overtaking along double lines, beating the red light, overtaking dangerously and using the emergency lane.

Offences related to heavy vehicles and vehicle exhaust modifications were also not eligible for the discount.
