PETALING JAYA: Former Johor assemblyman Che Zakaria Mohd Salleh has quit Bersatu to join Amanah, citing problems with the party’s leadership.

He said two more former state representatives will also leave Bersatu, saying one was a former state executive councillor and the other an ex-assemblyman.

“I’ve thought about this for a long time, not only recently. I chose Amanah after studying for five months which was the best party to join.

“I decided to join Amanah after finding this party (Bersatu) bureaucratic and one that suffers from leadership problems,” said the former Permas assemblyman, according to a Berita Harian report.

Che Zakaria said he also felt that he could not continue to serve the people if he stayed with Bersatu.

Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub said Che Zakaria’s decision to join the party was sincere, as the latter did so after the state elections. He maintained that the action cannot be construed as party-hopping.

Johor Bersatu chief and former menteri besar Sahruddin Jamal said Che Zakaria’s announcement effectively made the former assemblyman’s Bersatu membership null and void.
