TASEK GELUGOR: Barisan Nasional deputy chairman Mohamad Hasan has slammed the door on former allies, saying he told them “don’t waste my time” about returning to BN.

Mohamad, better known as Tok Mat, also took a shot at former BN partner Gerakan for ditching the coalition after its dismal failure at the 2018 general election, when BN lost control of the federal government.

“Not even a month (after) we lost GE14, our friends ran away,” he said when launching the Penang BN election machinery here.

“(They were) the very friends that we supported and embraced all this time in Penang. And yet they stabbed us from behind and ran away,” he said.

Although he did not mention Gerakan by name, the party was at the helm of the BN state government from the 1970s until 2008 when it lost power to a DAP-led Pakatan Harapan government.

In the 2018 general election, Gerakan lost in all seats it contested and left the coalition. That year, 31 MPs from Umno left to join Bersatu, then headed by Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Muhyiddin Yassin.

Mohamad said things did not end up well for the two parties ever since the “backstabbing”, as they underperformed in both the Melaka and Johor state elections, to the extent of their candidates losing their deposits.

“Where are they now? They have become like “melukut di tepi gantang” (useless). Nothing!” he told more than 1,300 BN members that attended the event.

Mohamad said he had been approached by Bersatu members who wanted to rejoin Umno and BN.

“I told them, do not waste my time. Umno and BN will continue moving forward alone. Goodbye to those who betrayed us. We do not want to get our legs stuck any more,” he said.
