Sedition

TMI - IGP: DAP’s Rara ‘must have said something seditious’ to be summoned by cops

Sweetie Syefura Othman (DAP)

“Police reports lodged against many issues, but one of it is on a post insulting the Sultan,” ASP Ahmad Khairuddin Alias said, before assuring Syefura that she was only being summoned to have her statement recorded and would not be detained.

Syefura told Malay Mail Online that she believes the post referred to could be from last year over the case of activist Ali Abd Jalil who was slapped with three sedition charges for insulting the Selangor Sultan and the Johor royal house, as well as for undermining the royal institution.

* read this Wikipedia page to know why Ali Abdul Jalil was slapped with sedition charges for insulting the royalty of Selangor and Johor

I wonder what were the exact words in sweetie Syefura Othman's post that were considered seditious in its alleged insult of HRH Sultan of Selangor and of Johor? We'll examine an example shortly, mind you, just for academic comparison, wakakaka.

[ooops, I wonder whether my 'wakakaka' would be considered seditious and insulting?]

Since that alleged seditious post was from last year, I wonder what is the statute of limitation for the offence of seditious insults to royalty?

If there is no statute of limitations for the crimes of insulting royalty, as for the crimes of murder, then we need to re-examine what happened or was said on 10 December 1992.

An UMNO MP in parliament walloped ... ooops I mean ... whacked the rulers as follows:

"How can we continue to uphold rulers who are known to be robbers, adulterers, drunkards and kaki pukul(thugs)?" [...]

"They (the rulers) must be made to realize that they do not own this country. They are not Superman but placed on their thrones by the people."

"The real power did not lie with them, but with us - the representatives of the people."

Aiyoyo amah, "rulers who are known to be robbers, adulterers, drunkards and kaki pukul (thugs)"? Would such words be seditious and insulting to our rulers?

As mentioned, if there is no statute of limitations then I urge police to go back to that year and perhaps even the year after to see the sort of insults hurled at royalty by UMNO members, and then assess whether the words in Syefura's post have been that bad?

Would this be seditious?

or this?

  3. The way Mr Moo is behaving, acting and talking is like an angry man being scorned by his spouse. He is going to be more a problem and trouble to Najib and Umno.Mr Moo should take his sacking like a man for plotting against his boss, ride away into the sunset, and be thankful that he is not being arrested.Shapie Apdal might not be that lucky.Najib should sack him from Umno, and get rid of him once and for all.
