Malaysia and India look to deepen defence ties with focus on cyber and maritime security

HYDERABAD, July 2 — Malaysia and India reviewed various areas of military cooperation and explored opportunities to expand collaboration during the 12th India-Malaysia Sub Committee Meeting on Military Cooperation (SCMC).

The meeting held in New Delhi on Wednesday, was co-chaired by Indian Defence Ministry joint secretary Amitabh Prasad and Malaysian Armed Forces’ assistant chief of staff for defence operations and training, Major General Amer Mahmud Abdul Rahman.

“The two sides reviewed the entire spectrum of bilateral military cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the steady progress achieved,” India’s Defence Ministry said in a statement.

Discussions covered bilateral exercises, training, staff talks, capacity building and maritime cooperation.


Both sides also looked at opportunities to expand collaboration in the defence industry, technology, cyber security and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, besides exchanging views on regional and global security developments, the Indian statement noted.

The visiting Malaysian delegation also called on defence secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, visited the DPSU Bhawan, a hub for collaboration for Indian public sector defence undertakings, and laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in the Indian capital. — Bernama

    When asked why India has not censured Israel , Modi has said "Israel has never done anything unfriendly towards India."
