Summary
- The Kelantan Umno chief dares a PAS assemblyperson to repeat his criticism of the police outside the state legislative assembly.
- Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub accuses Wan Rohimi Wan Daud of hiding behind legislative immunity and calls him a coward.
- Wan Rohimi claims that the Kelantan police chief said a cosmetic entrepreneur was leading a drug syndicate in the state.
Kelantan Umno has challenged a PAS lawmaker to repeat his remarks against the police outside the state assembly, where legislative immunity does not apply.
Labelling Melor assemblyperson Wan Rohimi Wan Daud a coward, state Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub criticised him for insinuating that Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIGP) Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat were attempting to cast the state in a negative light.
“Wan Rohimi has acted recklessly and carelessly by accusing them of deliberately making negative remarks about Kelantan for the purpose of the upcoming by-election in Ayer Kuning on April 26.
“The Kelantan police chief, the DIGP, and the entire police force are civil servants bound by regulations and tasked with ensuring national security.
“Therefore, it is inappropriate to question the statements made by the police in relation to their duties in raising awareness and combating crime within society,” said Jazlan (above, right) in a statement.
During the state assembly sitting, Wan Rohimi claimed that on March 22, the Kelantan police chief stated that a cosmetic entrepreneur influencer was leading a drug syndicate in the state, without providing proper data.
“I wonder whether the police chief is trying to sell a sensational story or act as an enforcer or civil servant who is disciplined (in providing) data?
“Four days ago, the DIGP repeated the same data. We wonder why they are so persistent, taking a small snippet to create a misleading picture?
“That’s why I say, if you want to talk about it, talk about everything. When we look closely, we realise, ‘Oh perhaps this Saturday is the Ayer Kuning by-election’,” said Wan Rohimi during his speech.

Jazlan dared Wan Rohimi to repeat his allegation outside the Kelantan assembly.
“In my view, it is a cowardly and serious accusation against the police… while hiding behind ‘immunity’.
“Thus, I challenge him to repeat this accusation outside the state assembly to demonstrate responsibility for such malicious remarks that have tarnished the image of civil servants and the unity government,” he added.
On April 17, the DIGP revealed that Kelantan recorded the highest number of drug abuse cases in Malaysia, involving 1,130 cases per 100,000 residents.
He said Terengganu had the second highest with 914 cases, followed by Perlis (965) and Kedah (898) for the same population size.
On April 9, the Kelantan police chief disclosed that the number of rape and incest cases in the state has increased but investigations showed many cases were consensual.
He said 252 cases were reported in 2024 compared to 206 in 2023, an increase of 22.3 percent, and more worrying is that some cases involved children as young as 10.
