Summary

  • Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi says the police’s data on the rise of sex crimes in the PAS-led Kelantan has delivered a ‘knockout’ blow to its administration.

  • He urges PAS to stop riding on religion and forget about taking over Putrajaya for the time being.

Umno supreme council member Puad Zarkashi has described the police’s data on the rise of sex crimes in Kelantan as a “knockout” blow to the PAS state administration.

As such, the Johor state assembly speaker urged PAS to quit riding on religion and forgo its dream of helming Putrajaya for now.

“The Kelantan state government cannot hide from this. Data is at our fingertips.

“So, PAS should stop riding on religion and ‘postpone’ its dreams of taking over the country. Crime rates have increased (in Kelantan) after administering the state for 35 years,” Puad (above) said on Facebook today.

Negative perception

Yesterday, Kelantan Umno challenged a PAS lawmaker to repeat his remarks against the police over the data outside the state assembly, where legislative immunity does not apply.

This came after Melor representative Wan Rohimi Wan Daud had insinuated during a state assembly session that Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIGP) Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay and Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat were attempting to cast the state in a negative light with the crime statistics.

“Wan Rohimi has acted recklessly and carelessly by accusing them of deliberately making negative remarks about Kelantan for the purpose of the upcoming by-election in Ayer Kuning on April 26.

“The Kelantan police chief, the DIGP, and the entire police force are civil servants bound by regulations and tasked with ensuring national security.

“Therefore, it is inappropriate to question the statements made by the police in relation to their duties in raising awareness and combating crime within society,” said Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

However, Wan Rohimi rebuffed Jazlan’s challenge by saying PAS even criticises the prime minister when he errs.

On that note, Puad said the state PAS leadership should be using the police’s statistics to improve themselves instead of being defensive.

“PAS cannot accept DIGP and the state police chief’s remarks.

“Maybe, they are embarrassed about how crime rates could spike when the state is being administered the Islamic way,” he added.
