PETALING JAYA
A DAP Youth leader has filed a police report against Abdul Hadi Awang over a Facebook post by the PAS president opposing the proposal for a limit to the prime minister’s tenure.

Kepong DAP Youth chief Jefferson Chia, who filed the report at the Kepong police station yesterday, said Hadi’s statement was seditious, particularly the Marang MP’s claim that “Islam is being openly opposed by DAP”.

“This is a dangerous accusation that could trigger racial and religious tensions,” Chia said in a statement.

“If the police don’t take action, it will encourage politicians to make more extreme, hateful and seditious statements for their personal interests.

“Hadi must be hauled to court and take responsibility for his statement.”

At DAP’s national convention last Sunday, party secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said DAP wanted the government to amend the Federal Constitution to include a two-term limit for the prime ministership.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed support for the proposal but said consensus was needed among the political parties.

Hadi had panned DAP’s call, saying the proposal went against God’s will. The PAS chief said Islamic principles must guide the nation’s leadership, and that leadership was a sacred trust from God.

The Perikatan Nasional deputy chairman also warned that the greatest deviation from the path established by the prophets was when Muslims allowed themselves to be influenced by non-Muslims.

He claimed that liberal factions dominating the political landscape were actively working to dismantle the system that safeguarded Islamic rights.
