Detractors want long-arm of the law ensures Zamri Vinoth gets prosecuted, not just remanded, released

As his followers are rallying in solidarity for his release, detractors of Muslim convert preacher Zamri Vinoth are rejoicing that finally their deemed ‘untouchable foe’ has been detained by cops over a seditious Facebook on the relocation of the Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman temple debacle in Kuala Lumpur.
Social activist Aarun Dorasamy who had previously engaged in a court battle with Zamri described the latter’s arrest at Taman Melati Indah, Beseri in Kangar, Perlis yesterday (March 27) as the only the second time since April 29, 2019 when he was remanded.
“That was over a ‘penyembah berhals bodoh’ (literally “stupid idol worshipper”) posting but there was no charge,” recounted the legal unit head of Hindu NGO Pertubuhan Hindu Agamam Ani Malaysia in a recent TikTok video.
“Back then, he was remanded for four days under the Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.”
“This time around, he’s investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (for uttering seditious words and misuse of network facilities).
“We are expecting at least three to four days remand! Our team will be at the Kangar Magistrate’s Court.”
Previously, despite confirmed by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain that the cops received 894 reports against the errant preacher over a FB post allegedly insulting Hinduism by depicting kavadi bearers as being drunk on toddy and having been possessed, no action was taken against Zamri.

Razarudin further disclosed that the police received a report from an individual at 6.30pm the day before the arrest.
The complainant alleged that he had come across a social media comment, purportedly Zamri’s, regarding negotiations on the re-location of a temple site on Jalan Munshi Abdullah. The comment was allegedly inflammatory and disrespectful towards the Hindu religion.
Recall that Zamri had even belittled the law by re-posting the said FB post (during the ERA FM Thaipusam gaffe) which has been removed by FB parent Meta at the instruction of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
This led to human rights activist and lawyer Siti Kasim slamming PDRM (Malaysia Royal Police) as toothless and practising double standards when dealing with religious personalities whether famed preachers, ustaz or lebai regardless if they are pro-opposition.
“I read comments on social media … many say it’s all sandiwara (theatrics) in that he’ll be released and given DNAA (discharge not amounting to acquittal)/NFA (No Further Action) after this,” penned the Orang Asli advocate on X in reaction to Zamrri Vinoth’s arrest.
“This is the level of distrust people have towards our authorities when it comes to the likes of Zamri Vinoth.”
Added Siti Kasim: “I hope our @PDRMsia will prove they aren’t what people think. Prosecute if evidences are clear. No to two-tier policing.” – March 28, 2025
