Najib's daughter on storms, Zahid on real culprits, Zaid on cooking eggs

After the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered her father to enter his defence on charges related to the 1MDB scandal, Nooryana Najwa Najib took to Instagram to share a post on not losing hope.
“Never lose hope. Storms make people stronger and never last forever,” it read.
Last night, she also posted a photograph (above) of a despondent-looking former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who has been in prison since August 2022, with the message: “We will get through this together. Sentiasa bersamamu (with you always).”
Responding to the ruling, Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said it does not mean Najib is guilty but rather provides him with an opportunity to prove otherwise.
“Representing Umno, BN, and as well as a friend, we are confident that Najib is on the side of truth. We will continue to provide support to ensure that he receives justice.
“We will also pray that the real culprits behind the 1MDB embezzlement are brought to justice,” he added.

Zaid tells Umno to think, don’t just pray
However, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim, who represented Najib at one point, finds it incomprehensible that Umno still hopes the courts would vindicate the former premier.
“Judges are like master chefs. They cook whatever stuff is presented to them. Judge A will not make findings different from Judge B’s conclusions on similar facts. Judges are good cooks who will not ask if eggs grade A or B are being asked to cook.
“The shopping was all done by the police, MACC, and the attorney-general,” he added.
Zaid appeared to suggest that, unlike Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s supporters who could detect flaws in the case that led to his imprisonment, Umno members are now somehow unable to pinpoint anything for Najib.
“The system that put Anwar in jail was the same that put Najib in jail. There have been no reforms.

“Umno members should do some thinking. Doing the easy thing like praying for divine intervention is not enough,” he added.
During a recent BN convention in Pahang, Zahid, who is also the coalition’s chairperson, vowed that efforts to free Najib would not stop.
Stressing that the former premier’s spirit is still “ablaze within the Umno and BN leadership”, he said, “Although our former leader is in prison, not a single part of my soul has forgotten him.”
Zahid also touched on the alleged house arrest addendum, reiterating that he and Umno vice-president Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail had sighted it.
However, on July 3, the Kuala Lumpur High Court rejected Najib’s leave application to commence judicial review on the alleged addendum after ruling that the four affidavits supporting his claim, including from Zahid and Wan Rosdy, were hearsay.
The Court of Appeal has fixed Dec 5 to hear Najib’s appeal on the dismissal of his leave application.
The former premier, who is serving a six-year prison term over the SRC International case, claimed that the former Yang di-Pertuan Agong had issued the addendum allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.
Zahid alleged that Umno supreme council member Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz had shown him the document on the addendum at his (Zahid’s) house in Country Heights on Jan 30.
Wan Rosdy, who is also the Pahang menteri besar, also claimed that Zafrul told him about the addendum.
On Oct 24, Najib apologised for the 1MDB scandal but maintained his innocence, claiming he was duped by fugitive financier Low Taek Jho, better known as Jho Low, as well as Petrosaudi executives Patrick Mahoney and Tarek Obaid.
This came in the wake of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealing in his Budget 2025 speech a week earlier that the government would draft a House Arrest Bill.
