Three mind-boggling massacres Israel perpetrated – Mohamed Hanipa Maidin

With the current mass murder in Rafah not being the Zionist regime’s first, chants of ‘Netanyahu, you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide’ conveys desire to see it held against its war crimes

IS the latest massacre taking place in Rafah the first-ever mass murder perpetrated by Israel?

The answer is definitely a resounding no because yes – Israel has been committing mass atrocities with impunity against innocent Palestinian civilians for decades.

Let us start with the Deir Yassin massacre which took place on April 9, 1948.

The bloody tragedy happened when Zionist paramilitaries attacked the village of Deir Yassin, which was near Jerusalem. The attack murdered at least 107 Palestinian villagers, including women and children.

The Deir Yassin massacre is often remembered as a pivotal moment in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, which was carried out by Zionist militias and the new Israeli army to establish Israel as a Jewish majority state in Palestine.

To everyone’s utter shock, on September 16 to 18, 1982, the whole world saw yet another enormous massacre committed by Israel. This time it was the Sabra and Shatila massacre, slaughtering between 700 and 3,500 civilians – mostly Palestinians and Lebanese Shias – in the city of Beirut during the Lebanese Civil War.

Such a heinous crime was perpetrated by the Lebanese forces – one of the main Christian militias in Lebanon. However, it was staunchly supported by the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) that had surrounded Beirut’s Sabra neighbourhood and the adjacent Shatila refugee camp.

The IDF was then led by the then-Israeli defence minister, Ariel Sharon.

Hitherto, there has been no sign yet that Israel’s thirst for blood is being fully satiated. Ergo, Israelis still committed another massacre against Palestinians in 2024.

On May 26, 2024, the IDF struck Tel Aviv Sultan in western Rafah, setting fire to a displacement camp. The reports said the attack killed between 45 and 50 Palestinians and injured over 200.

The disturbing part of the latest massacre is that it was still committed by Israel despite the fact that the International Court of Justice (ICJ) had sternly issued a ruling ordering Israel to halt its ongoing assault and withdraw its troops from Rafah. The International Criminal Court chief prosecuto Karim Khan has also applied for warrants of arrest to be issued for Benjamin Netanyahu and his defence minister.

It is, therefore, little wonder that Israel is increasingly facing accusations that their war against the Palestinian people is a deliberate policy of genocide.

We are fully aware that pro-Palestinian demos have been taking place around the globe, even in the United States. The chant on pro-Palestinian demos – “Netanyahu, you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide” – expresses the desire to see Israel held to account for war crimes.

Many international scholars argue that by committing those massacres, the Israeli intention was clearly to silence and marginalise Palestinians through ethnic cleansing and the denial of national rights.

John Westmoreland contends that Israel’s genocidal intent today is the result of colonialism and ethnic cleansing that were part and parcel of the creation of the Israeli state. – May 30, 2024

  1. Hamas supporters ignore and refuse to recognise that there were equally Palestinian massacres of Jewish settlements in 1946-1947.
In fact those were the a key driving force for the formation of the Haganah.

The killings in Sabra and Shatilah were carried out by Arab Christian militia.. There is no evidence Israel was actually involved in the killings.
