Police summon PAS president to record statement over Simpang Jeram by-election speech

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 — PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has been summoned by the police to give his statement regarding a police report on his speech in the Simpang Jeram by election campaign in Johor.
Abdul Hadi’s political secretary Syahir Sulaiman said that they were contacted by Bukit Aman police headquarters over the matter.
“We have informed Tuan Guru (Abdul Hadi) regarding this matter and he has expressed his willingness to give full cooperation to Bukit Aman,” he said in a statement.
Syahir also said that the party president had already given his statement previously to the police including handing over of the mobile phone belonging to the handler (Abdul Hadi’s press secretary) of his official Facebook account to the police and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to help with the investigation.
“In this regard, Tuan Guru has full faith in the professionalism of police and MCMC in carrying out their duties and investigations,” he added.
However, Syahir did not disclose the content of Hadi Awang’s speech that was investigated by the authorities.
On Saturday, Abdul Hadi in his speech, at the Ceramah Perdana Perikatan Nasional at Markas PAS Bakri, Simpang Jeram, said that the country and land belong to the Malay only as they were first to fought with the colonist while the other races only appears later.
“We want other races to join us, but let Islam to govern,” he said.
He claimed the unity government is dominated by non-Malays and non-Muslims, and accused the Malays in the government of being DAP's 'Gurkha', in reference to soldiers mostly from Nepal who were recruited to fight for the colonial British and Indian army.
Abdul Hadi also said non-Muslims and other races can only be safe if the government is rule by Malay-Muslims.
“If Malay-Islam (sic) is not ruling the government then no one will be safe,” he said.
