Police officer makes Malaysia famous in China with his ‘coffee money’ antic
A MALAYSIAN police officer has made his country talk of the town in China after a video clip of him extorting money from a China woman tourist went viral.
The officer had apparently asked for a bribe from the Chinese tourist for not having her passport which was allegedly left in her hotel.
As she did not have the money, her Grab driver offered to lend her RM100 but the officer insisted he wanted RM200.
Fortunately, the police is aware of the matter with an investigation now underway into the allegation that one of its members extorted money from a woman believed to be a Chinese tourist.
Acting Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Yahaya Othman said the police detected the existence of a video lasting one minute and 48 seconds on the TikTok account @cs_kuan, at about 11pm on Sunday night (April 2).
“The video shows a policeman in uniform conducting an inspection on an individual with the Tunku Abdul Rahman Memorial sign in the background at the Dato’ Onn roundabout in Kuala Lumpur,” Berita Harian cited him in a statement.

“The initial investigation found that the individual in the viral video claimed to have been blackmailed by the policemen involved because she did not have her identification document with her.”
Yahaya went on to say that the Criminal Investigation Division of Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD) has opened investigation papers in accordance with Section 384 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“The police officer and individual who have been identified as involved (in the video) will be called to the Dang Wangi IPD to have their statements taken for investigation,” he elaborated. “The investigation papers will be completed before being referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions.”
In the meantime, the public is advised not to easily believe the spread of information on social media without authentic and accurate sources from the police.

China is ranked about the same as Malaysia in worldwide Corruption Index - neither rated any good - so there is nothing China can act superior to Malaysia on the matter of corruption.
