Want to unite DAP? Start by serving the public, not Dr M!

THE onus is on Johor DAP chief Liew Chin Tong and his deputy, Teo Nie Ching to unite party members that have been fragmented after the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan Government last year.

For a start, former Johor DAP chief Dr Boo Cheng Hau stated, the duo should get rid of the mindset that they owe former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad their allegiance.

“It was the people, DAP and Pakatan Harapan as a whole that gave them the opportunity to become deputy ministers.

“Remember that you serve the people. Please work towards preserving Pakatan’s solidarity, especially in Johor,” he told FocusM.

Yesterday, Liew retained his post at the state party elections, which saw his team winning 10 of the 15 committee seats.

His challenger, Skudai state assemblyperson Tan Hong Pin, failed to make the cut after coming in at the 16th position.

Liew came in third place in the polls, with Bakri MP Yeo Bee Yin winning the most votes, seconded by Teo.

Reconciliation needed

Boo, a fellow of rival of Liew, was re-elected by winning the 14th spot.

On April 30, party veteran Lim Kit Siang threw his lot behind Liew, urging candidates to support the former Deputy Defence Minister and Teo.

“I call on all MPs, state assemblypersons and contending candidates to close ranks and rally behind the leadership of Chin Tong and Nie Ching to take Johor DAP to new heights – which is to be the frontline state for DAP and Pakatan to win the 15th general election to begin to fulfil the Malaysian Dream,” the Iskandar Puteri MP was reported saying.

On the factionalism within DAP, Boo claimed the split started after a leader declared to the press that there was a group preparing itself to challenge the latter’s leadership, alluding to those aligned to Liew.

“Therefore, I believe it is Liew and Teo who has to make the first step to reconcile with Johor DAP leaders and members, whom they called as challengers.

“As for me, I’m glad to be re-elected as a Johor DAP state committee member and will continue to serve the party and people within my capacity,” he stressed. – May 3, 2021
