KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — As part of the RM470 billion federal budget for 2026, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced continued support for taxi drivers, including full tax exemptions for new vehicle purchases and RM10 million in training assistance.

Anwar said the government will maintain a 100 per cent excise duty exemption and 100 per cent sales tax exemption on the purchase of new national cars — Proton and Perodua — for eligible taxi owners and private hire vehicle drivers.

To improve the efficiency and safety of the sector, he added that Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp) has allocated RM10 million to cover training fees and allowances for licensed taxi drivers who are registered contributors undergoing upskilling programmes.
