Saifuddin meets Anwar, Rafizi, to reveal future in PKR soon

Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail will be making “an official announcement within a reasonable time” on his future in PKR.

This followed several meetings with party president Anwar Ibrahim and one with deputy president Rafizi Ramli.

“Alhamdulillah, I have completed almost the entire process of engagement and discussions with various parties within the party, including a lengthy session with Rafizi and several meetings with Anwar.

“This process is important before I make any decisions regarding the party elections.

“In the four days remaining before the nomination deadline, I will continue to make the best considerations with trust in God and prayer. God willing, I will make an official announcement within a reasonable time,” Saifuddin said in a Facebook post today.

He is rumoured to be gunning for the party’s deputy presidency.

‘Strong party, stronger government’

Meanwhile, Saifuddin added that as a seasoned PKR leader, he has experienced more episodes of defeat than victory, and emphasised that service to the party should not be conditional upon position.

“A strong party will contribute to winning more seats. A solid party will strengthen Harapan and the unity government.

“A united party will ensure Anwar is positioned again as prime minister for a second term,” said the home minister and former PKR secretary-general.

Saifuddin and Rafizi previously contested the PKR deputy president’s post in 2022, with Rafizi winning a landslide victory by 16,668 votes.

Before that, Saifuddin had also unsuccessfully contested the PKR deputy presidency in 2014 in a three-cornered fight against Azmin Ali and Khalid Ibrahim.
