Summary
- PKR deputy president hopeful Nurul Izzah Anwar warns that internal rifts could spell the party’s downfall.
- She urges members to close ranks after the party polls to ensure PKR’s continued survival.
Nurul Izzah Anwar has issued a stark warning that internal strife could lead to PKR’s collapse within five to 10 years, urging members to unite and prioritise the party’s survival in the next general election.
Regardless of the party polls’ outcome, the deputy president hopeful stressed that members must set aside differences and close ranks.
“A party that is not united and not working together to face upcoming challenges will result in us disappearing within the next five to 10 years.
“The target of (PKR capturing) the 50 marginal seats (in the next national polls) and cooperation among one another is vital, because I don’t want us to lose what we have achieved in five to 10 years.
“This is not about me, but about us. This is not about what I can do, but what we can do together,” she said during the grassroots engagement programme “Jelajah Temu Rapat Akar Umbi Bersama Nurul Izzah Anwar” in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, last night.
Nurul Izzah, daughter of Prime Minister and PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, is challenging incumbent deputy president Rafizi Ramli in a high-stakes contest that risks deepening divisions within the party.

Earlier in her speech, she urged candidates who lost in the divisional election to adopt a new attitude.
“What saddens me most, my main criticism of the election system is that we often fight among ourselves. Maybe this time, we should do something different.
“Especially since the party headquarters has decided that both winners and losers have the right to vote. Today, we must decide that no matter what happens, we must value our party.
“I appeal once again to the grassroots voices, give us the chance to start this movement. I ask that we launch and mobilise it within the 24 months leading up to the next general election,” she added.
Adopting a more optimistic approach, Anwar has said he is not worried about the intensity of the party election, as he believes all its leaders will unite and forgive each other once the contest is over.
