Former Singapore Top Diplomat Says Kameleon Is A Dud

 

• Kameleon's ability to resolve US tariff dispute called into question

• calling it "acute political acumen" (Huh !!) 
  
• Trump administration said it would not nego with Asean as a bloc
• favour bilateral talks with individual ASEAN states instead

• prominent Spore diplomat criticised Kameleon's proposal 
• to negotiate with US as unified bloc
  
• Bilahari Kausikan, Singapore ex-permanent envoy to UN 
• said Kameleon's proposal impossible
  
• ASEAN members different tariffs, different economies said Kausikan
• ASEAN states prefer individual nego with US
• Kausikan's frank views highly regarded in diplomatic circles
  

• Kausikan said only Kameleon thought otherwise or pretended to 
• because he can never resist temptation to grandstand 
• Kausikan said in FB post shared by Ho Ching, wife of Lee Hsien Loong
• Kausikan reiterated that Kameleon was "grandstanding"
• "Not Chinese influence but Kameleon grandstanding!" said Kausikan 
  

• Kausikan's criticism followed by countless comments
• stream of opinions on social media clearly contradict Kameleon
• many said Kameleon no clue on handling economic issues

• "MOU is his favourite. But nothing gets done," said Jansen
• referring foreign trips where he only announced MOU 
• Sylvester said: "his Almari members enjoy grandstanding for attention"
• Affan said little could be expected from Kameleon

• as if that alone justifies the lack of action, he added.

 

My Comments:

• The fellow does not understand anything about finance, business or economics.
• Zero.  Zilch. A blind Zorro riding a blind horse on a moonless night.
• They have also been living inside their coccoons and ghettoes for too long. 
• They think the rest of the world also MUST run on APs, gomen licensed monopolies to import rice.  
• They think the rest of the world also MUST run on gomen licensed monopolies which are renewed, extended, renewed, extended again and again for 15 years, 25 years etc.
• So yes, lets go and negotiate as a bloc. The Americans will be overjoyed.

I have already said earlier that when the Indonesians rushed to Washington most recently to negotiate the US tariffs the US told Indonesia to take a hike. They did this despite Indonesia being the largest economy in South East Asia, its a member of the G20, with over US$1.5 Trillion GDP, and an almost 300 million population market size. The Americans told Indonesia to take a hike. Same thing happened to Vietnam.

• The Americans have told both Indonesia and Vietnam what they want. 
• Same same. Level playing field. 
• You tax us X% we tax you X%. 
• You increase your tariff, we increase our tariff. 
• You cut your tariff, we cut our tariff. 
• End of negotiations. 
• Nothing left to negotiate.
  

No need to silat, no need to lepat etc.

Our clown loves the sound of his own voice. He does not care what he is saying. As long as he can open his mouth and make sounds come out that is an achievement already. "I know how to solve Pakistan's problems !!!! "
