  • Aaron says such actions cannot be condoned, and appropriate legal action must be taken.

National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang has called on authorities to take action against a food delivery rider accused of hurling a racist insult against an Indian teacher.

“We cannot condone such actions, and appropriate legal action must be taken.

“The food delivery company is also urged to take strict disciplinary action against any individuals involved and tighten their workers’ code of conduct,” he said in a statement today.

Earlier, Malaysiakini reported that schoolteacher S Amutha, 27, was left shocked and distressed after receiving an offensive message from a food delivery rider via the app’s internal chat feature.

The message read: “Oii sampai. Tak mau ambik makanan jangan order pu**mak Hindu (Oii, arrived. If you don’t want to take the food, don’t order pu**mak Hindu).”

Malaysiakini has censored the offensive term in accordance with its editorial guidelines.

“Such language is not only offensive, but also a direct insult to my religion, my identity, and the values of mutual respect that our country stands for.

“Malaysia is a multiracial, multireligious, and multinational country. Our strength lies in our diversity, and it is our responsibility to uphold harmony by respecting one another’s beliefs and backgrounds.

“The use of such hateful and vulgar language is completely unacceptable and goes against the spirit of unity we strive to protect,” she stressed.

Serious matter

Referring to it as a disappointing incident, Aaron stressed that his ministry is looking at the matter seriously.

He added that the incident not only smeared Malaysian values but could potentially disrupt racial harmony.

“There is no place in Malaysia for discrimination, hate or racism. I believe this is an isolated incident and doesn’t reflect the community as a whole.

“However, we are all equally responsible to create a more inclusive, peaceful and united nation,” Aaron stated.

Zero tolerance

Malaysiakini had earlier withheld the company’s name pending comments.

When contacted, a representative from Grab referred to a social media update posted directly in response to Amutha’s complaint.

“Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please be assured that the driver’s account has been restricted and is under investigation,” said the post.

“Rest assured that we do not tolerate any form of abusive language or discrimination, and appropriate action will be taken.

“Your patience and understanding are much appreciated while the investigation is ongoing,” said the company.
